Light and Medium armour

I have a query about LA and MA.
Originally being a melee character, of course I always used HA, I can wear Q210 HA.
Apparently there is a different equation to calculate your ability to wear LA and MA, can someone tell me what it is please?
I was told that there wasn't much of a penalty for wearing MA instead of LA for Spell-casting, but the advantage of the extra protection afforded by the MA, made it the better armour, can someone confirm/deny if this is the case please?
My highest level is 203 elemental if that helps.
Thanks

For both of them, quality must be under max level +25. For MA, quality must also be under constitution * 1.5 ... if you wear q210 HA, you can manage q228 LA or MA with 203 skill.

While it's true that MA doesn't have much of a penalty compared to HA, and it does offer over twice (usually) the protection of LA, it also has a disadvantage. LA always has +1 dodge, and in some cases +2; HA always has +1 parry and goes up to +3; MA should always have 0 in both, and in case of a well crafted set, up to +1 dodge and +2 parry. MA on the other hand has an inherent HP bonus (equal to half the quality of the armor), which results to double the HP gained compared to light, and can also be used for fight skills (with parry mod ranging from 0 to +2).
So to sum it up:
LA: For when you're in a big group with a dedicated tank, able to kill the mobs you hunt before they reach you or when the mob doesn't have a physical attack (psykopla/jubla/stinga). For focus gear this is the only viable option.
MA: For tanking mages who need some extra protection and HP or for light fighters (fighters who rely on their dodge/parry to reduce damage taken rather than their armor). The "good for all, master of none" armor.
HA: For tanks only. Nuff said.
MA looks a lot better than LA though

LA
Max Prot Factor = 25%?
No Malus
Max Dodge/Parry: 2/0
Max hp bonus = .5 quality = 625
MA
Max Prot factor = 40%
Malus causes + 24% stat drain
Magic Range Reduced from 50m to 40m
Max Dodge/Parry: 1/2
Max hp bonus = quality of item = 1250
HA
Max Prot Factor = 60%?
Malus Causes + 120% stat drain
Magic Range reduced from 50m to 20m
Max Dodge/Parry: 0/3
Max hp bonus = 1.5 quality of item = 1875

Correct on the Protection factor, but malus causes only +120% stat drain for a full set, including the helmet. 200% is a full heavy armor set plus a 1-handed weapon plus a shield.

Look here in the combat section:
http://www.ryzom.com/?page=releasenotes&id=125
It states that
"The new absorption value are as follow:
- For light armors, the absorption range changed from 5%-15% to 5%-25%"
