Foraging question

Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to look for a specific raw material? Or do you just have to go around and get lucky at finding something. I'm on the newbie quest where I have to find a raw material south of town. Any helpful hints of foraging would be nice.

Also, who should I talk to first for missions without dying fast

Edit: There are skills specifically to track resource locations. You are probably to new to have them yet. Deposit tracking is the skill and can be used with or without a material specialization. There is however, no way to track to mission mat locations.

Early on, your best bet is to find yourself a good mentor or two or three in the field of foraging. There is a lot to learn, and not everyone does things the same. Everyone that forages has there own little intracacies that they manage to introduce into it.

just a small addition, if you are just starting out on the harvesting journey i would strongly suggest you save your sp for other skills. getting a few range and angle stanzas, and search 'upto choice' will serve you a lot better at the start than deposit tracking and then the individual mat specs needed for it.

Foraging missions btw really really horrible, i have had 3 in my tasks for about 2 months and been unable to find the mats, despite the fact some would (hopefully with irony) call me a master digger

Foraging missions are futile (except the ones for rites) because you have to be lucky or find someones map... As another considered a decent forager I would suggest there are better ways for fame and dappers.
