Hello peeps !!
Just started a 7-day trial of SOR over the weekend and I seem to be getting the basics, only thing is I think I may have gimped my character from the off. I created a Fighter, Crafter and Forager to begin, but I cant seem to work out how to further my magic use at all, not having any spells whatsoever, help would be appriciated
Also, anyone wanna explain to me why I seem to have a hard time killing anything other than a single star creature, is it my distinct lack of armour maybe ?? (Still wearing what I started with)
Thank you's.

Don't worry, you can't gimp your character. You need to save up 50 training points in one of the other branches - melee, craft or forage - so that you can take the Magic Starter and get your first spells. I'd suggest not using Craft SP for this since craft plans are so costly.
2* yubos are tough little guys at first, but once you've upgraded your HP and made yourself/bought a bigger weapon than the starting dagger, they aren't so scary. Almost any player made dagger will be an improvement on that starting weapon.
And welcome

there is magic pack in trainers (every trainer has it), you need to get that and then you get your first spell

check your attack action (right click and edit), study hard what comes after edit

increase damage and accurate attack is main ones in melee.
you get new actions/stanzas in trainers.
also, check your weapon. check it's quality and it's damage (right click, info). maybe time for upgrade ? (2h swords are making most damage, dont waste your time on daggers at first

Early on you can make some mistakes that might slightly slow you down, but as stated by others you cannot gimp yourself as there is always a way to gather SP elsewhere if need be. A good way to get early levels in both trees is to find a homin near your level and you both takes turns being melee/HB. This way both have time to get the melee levels as well as healing in. Helping each other in a common goal is much easier than grinding both seperately.
Also it never hurts to make a friend in these trying times

Thanks everyone, that seems to have cleared it up a great deal.
