If you want to start on a skill you haven't pick in your starter pack; you'll have to save up 50 sp (skill points) in one branch, and then go to the trainer (for example the Fight trainer) and buy a "Starting pack".
Good luck ;)

When you target a creature, and you have the target window "t" up you should see some stars on a coloured background in a rectangular box.

The tooltip (hover the mouse over it) will give you an idea of what this means, but basically its as follows:

The colour represents the level region (ie 1-20, 21-50 etc etc)
The number of stars is a *loose* indicator on the strength of the creature. However, it also depends on the type of creature it is, and you can only judge that from experience.

Hope that helps

When you target a critter, you'll see a colored bar with a number a star. The background color gives you the rough range of the mob.

Light green = starter mobs
Blue = 1-50
Yellow = 51 - 100
Orange = 101-150
Red = 151-200
Purple = 201-250

The number before the star also tells you how tough he is relative to his background color. So, a 1 star mob is weaker than a 2 star.

The description before the name will also tell you. Blue carnivores for example always use Vigorous, Growling, Scowling and Baying to indicate the level. A Vigorous Gingo will always have the same number of stars and difficulty as any other Vigorous Gingo.

From mob type to mob type, it varies a lot. A 2 star Gingo is tougher than a 2 star Ragus, but the only way to really know that is through trial and error (and death).

A good indication is the amount of experience you get. If you get less than 1500, it was too easy of a mob for you. Try the next level up. In a team, aim for 3000 or slightly below. 3000 is the max, so even if the mob would give you 6000, you'll only actually get 3000.

The colours go green-blue-yellow-orange-red-purple.

The name also gives a clue to the level of the mob, see here:

This is very true - a 1* red Timari is nowhere near as tough as a 1* red Varynx. You'll soon learn which is tougher, or you'll die a lot. :D

We need a way to flag questions while we type the answer. Sort of a "I got it!", so everyone else can just hold off until they see how badly the first person messed it up. :)
