Does hand to hand damage go up as your close combat level goes up?
Is there anything to make it viable?
I was never quite sure why it becomes its own skill tree.

Yea, it does, and no, not really. I'm guessing it becomes its own level branch for the same reason axe and sword split, ie fists(or amps) and daggers are 2 different weapons.

Sometimes there are Hand to Hand tournaments :)

I would look for them to make H2H viable around the same time they fix daggers. As of right now, both are kind of novelty weapons for tourneys/duels and such.

Hand to hand damage goes up with close combat level until lvl 151, where close combat splits into daggers and hand to hand.

At lvl 228 hand to hand I do around 177 max damage per hit for 15 hits per minute, so it is pretty worthless. I get to have a 228 parry with pick in hand though, supposedly if I get it to 250 it could help me block attacks better than dodge against mobs with a big negative adversary dodge modifier?

Oh and a high lvl dual dagger user can beat an AoD in a duel :p

....And a high level dagger user has something to put in his left hand while there's a sword in his right, because sometimes you need damage more than you need a shield.

Novelty weapon my.... left foot :P

I meant dual daggers. Sword + dagger is good mainly because of the sword's damage. Dual daggers should be a feasible weapon choice for PvE/PvP play, just like any other 1h/2h weapon (obviously not for the same resons as either). Same goes for Hand to hand. If they are going to put it in the game it should be (effectively) useable on a full time basis, otherwise they should just take it out.
