Levels-- Mobs and Me.

I ok, can someone help me with a couple questions please:

1. How do I tell what level I am? Is it directly related to my Melee or Magic skill level? As in, my melee is at 22, and my Magic is at 11. So am I level 22?

2. Can someone explain mobs levels for me? I see a little box in the corner of the target window that has something like: 1x 2x 3x etc... and have seen the different background colors. but at 22 melee 3x's can be a challenge and 4x's beat me down. Are there other indicators that will give me a feel for My level Vs Mobs level?

Thanks in advance, I have found quite a bit of information on Mobs, but have found anything specific inregards to levels.

Xtink

You are level 22 in melee and level 11 in magic. Your higher melee level may help you in using magic by having a higher hp and higher dodge chances, but it won't improve your magical abilities.

The color code tells the region level. Blue is 0 to 50, yellow 50 to 100, orange 100 to 150, red 150 to 200, and purple 200 to 250. I believe the stars works as follows: 1x, 2x, 3x, ... tells the level of the mob by 10's except 1x spans 20 levels. For instance, a 1x blue is 0-20, a 2x blue is 21-30, 3x blue is 31-40, 4x blue is 41-50, 5x blue is slightly over over 50. Then 1x yellow is 51-70, 2x yellow is 71-80, ...

However, there are differences between mobs in aggressiveness, hp, attack damage, special attacks, social behavior, speed, resistances to various weapons and magic. So a 4x messab might be easier for you to kill than a 2x clopper, for example.

In a nuthshell, you are the level of the skill your using. That can change quickly by changing what's in your hand :P

Mob levels is a bit harder, as a 2X plant and a 2X carnivore are not the same to fight :P

Thanks for the replys, that helps me better understand whats going on.
In regards to the Quote above: So there no visible indications that a 2X Plant would be easier than a 2X Carnivore, this is just something you learn by trying?

I have been conditioned by all the popular MMO's.. haha Green - I can kick its butt, Blue - I can do it.. White - maybe, maybe no.. Yellow - this is going to be tough, and Red - Run...

I am just glad some of this is coming together for me. Looking at a mob and honestly not knowing what your chances are of being able to kill it is a weird feeling.

Yeah, basically. You can always ask about specific mobs, but trial and dp will do it.

Exactly :) Atys is a harsh planet, there is a lot you can learn by watching (carnivores/herbs, aggro distance, etc), and more than a few things you generally learn by dying (social mobs, feared herbs dragging aggro to u grr) :p

A lot of people already been replying here, but I would like to say too that Atys is not a friendly place. You cannot smell/sense if you can or cannot beat something. Sometimes you will hunt in a big group, who encounters a pack of torbaks (badbuttock ragusses) and the torbaks are set to kill you by adding numbers to their fight, a player might accidently pull a social herbivore in the fight... And after a very lengthy fight that includes running away, tanks casting heals from enchanted weapons and some pure luck of a stun at the right time, you still win. Or your high powered group is wiped in 20 seconds because a higher powered kincher decided to jump the healers from behind of course.

The world here is full of surprises and only some can be told in advance. Look around and stay open for these experiences, a lvl is changed as quickly as your weapon, as DoubleTap already mentioned.

Wee tiny correction here as Riv forgot the greens.
Green is 0 to 20 and blue is 20 to 50.

Generally you can check the level of something by looking at the quartered stuff you get from it. The only problem with this method is that you have to kill it first.

Here's a rule of thumb you might find handy:
Herbivores are normally in closely packed herds and don't move around alot. Almost all herbivores are social. Meaning they will attack you when they spot you attacking one of there kind.
Carnivores aren't social. They don't need to be. Carnivores tend to be together, but leave much bigger gaps between eachother then herbivores or are alone. All carnivores attack some kind of herbivores at some time (hunting behaviour).

Herbivores are generally weaker then carnivores in respect to the damage they do, but also have more health. Herbivores are usually of lower level then the carnivores.

Plants are a kind apart from the others, because they don't move around. Plants always have 2 sorts of attacks, mixing between 2 magic, 1 magic and 1 ranged. Plants never attack you. If you attack a plant, if there are other plants very close they will attack you aswelll. There are no known herbivores that attack plants.

Oh and then there are black stars. These can be carnivores, or herbivores but are always very beefed up versions. It's a bad idea trying these alone.

Bwee! Done spouting wisdom, bring on the adventure! :D
