Hi Hi
I hope u dont mind my noobie questions:

1.I saw skill to hite a body part(head,arms,etc.)what effect in combat does this have,it dosent say.

2.storage is only on you your apartment & paker right.what happens if i go to another town with out my apartment(i cant git it til i go back to the town with the apartment ?,can i have an apartment in every town ?
does the pack animal follow you & can argo mobs kill it fast (eek my stuff).
can you put away your pack animal when you dont need it ?

1) er.. not too sure what you mean but to get info on items right clicking is the key (a key to many things infact)

2) Packers can walk with you anywhere. Through portals also.
Only allowed 1 apt at the moment so choose carefully.
Yes packers can be killed, depending on the aggro and how tough the packer is.
If a packer is killed it's body remains for a few days (not sure how long) allowing you to collect it's contents..
And yes you can tell it to enter any stables..

different aim options are available, but usually not worth the effort (hp/stam cost).

atm, one apartement in your home town. packers follow you and can get killed by area of efect type of damage (source explosion/gas, yelk gas, kincher/goari lightning, etc). mobs can, attack packer after you dead, but not always.

yes, you can move pick to packer.... but why ? you always need a pick

Welcome to Ryzom!

I believe these have different effects based on the part you're aiming at. For instance, the 'aim at head' has a chance of stunning the animal. I'm not positive of all of the effects but from what I've heard from people, these aren't highly useful currently.

You can have one apartment total. Generally, you want that in the capitol city of your race, although, if you join a guild from another land, you might want to have your apartment in the same place as the guild is centered.

Getting back to your apartment is usually not too hard. When travelling to new places, make sure and buy teleport tickets and then you can go back and forth easily.

There's different types of packers that have different speeds and strengths. They can be killed so you have to be careful when travelling with them. If killed, they remain for 3 days for you to get your stuff off of them. When not using them, keep packers in the stable (one outside of every town, 3 in pyr) and they'll be safe.

A few comments:

* The "aim at" action bricks are a world on their own what they do imho is they increase the chances that you hit the aimed part when using the action that has them as option. The chances, as in most ryzom actions depend on several factors,and they are hard to figure them out correctly; but typically, the source and target levels (one would assume that a lvl 250 character using the appropriate 'aim at head' to his level -- yes, as other bricks like 'increase damage' you need to set the appropriate one -- against a lvl 1 target will hit the aimed part pretty often)

* Not every succesful 'hit at' will cause an effect (you can consider the effect as a perfect hit. I won't call it critical, because criticals have another meaning in ryzom, allowing you to use them as credits too, out of scope of this post).
IIRC - long time checking this -
- head was stun
- chest was stam loss
- front legs was slow atack
- rear legs was slow move,
etc.

* The actions are not extensively used, due to the high cost they represent and their no-deterministic behavior. Nevertheless, there are a few classical scenarios, usually combined with an "after dodge/after parry/after critical" to account for the cost.

- when PvP against a caster, use aim at head. If succesful, it will hit for full damage, and a stun will prevent him from casting, always a bonus. Are they worth it? your mileage may vary. Some say yes, some say no.

- when PvP against a melee, a possibility was to use "aim at chest" causing (eventually) stam loss. I haven't seen those in a while tho.

- a while ago, a bug caused hands to take full damage (not taking account gloves). Smarty players used aim at hands


* The effect of an incorrect aim at is unknown to me (what if I use aim at kitin head on a bandit?) Imho, the action should be disabled, but not sure.

* Apparently, developers forgot plants completely: there is no "aim at low trunk/upper trunk/root/leaf etc. Seems inconsistent.

yes all this info is very helpful for a low level player like me.
it helps me deside where best to spend my early skill points.

the reason the aim at something stanzas arent useful are because

1) credit cost is as high as increase damage
2) only has a special if you get a critical hit
a) critical hits are pretty rare
3) effect duration is only a second or two, hardly noticeable


situation where aim stanza is useful:

PvP where some noob is in heavy armor but no helmet, hit them in the head to bypass their defenses entirely

but this is flawed cause what are you doing meleeing during PvP

Some of these only apply to PvP, as mobs do not have a stamina value aiming chest will do you no good in a battle against a mob. I will attempt to find the complete list.

A ton of this stuff has been hashed over multiple times... New opionins and chatter are great, a lot of the knowledge is locked in the previous posts so give the search a shot too. Just remeber to change teh date range of posts.

Basically I think, from a non-melee-head perspective, skip these and work out the "after" credits (attack after parry, attack after critical) as at low levels the amount of credit you have is very low so this is very helpful. If you are a details junkie, the stuff at from the guild Melinoe at http://ryzom.twazz.net should help as the guides there are fairly involved. I don't think they qualify as spoilers, but can assist you in avoiding early aggravation on mis-used skill points.

Above everyhting else, know this, you cannot mess up your character in Ryzom. A slight misstep in learned skills will be very quickly overcome in 20-30 levels. Happiness is always on the horizon.

True, we got that Q&A explaining that mobs have timer values and random special attacks and thus they had no stam pool to drain, but the combat system was treating them as targets and info messages were displayed. Result? I don't know. Maybe they just removed the text. Maybe they did add some effects to "aim at" -- chest in this case-, or maybe they are completely and utterly useless in PvE.

I agree. There are more important options to learn, starting with hp and stam, accurate attack, etc. My post didn't try to replace a fighting guide.
