Packers on Newb Island

That's right, there aren't any. :(

It makes sense for the average person there - you don't want them to stay there forever, you want them to look forward to more good stuff on the mainland, etc.

BUT...

There are a few of us who spend a good bit of time there in order to help new players understand the game and progress. This is critical, since there often aren't many people there and the community is not developed. We help bond people to the game, get conversations going, make the first hours fun rather than frustrating. This is particularly important because the documentation is not what it should be.

Now the request...

Is it possible to make a packer or two available for a person on newbie island who is, say, over lvl 50 in a skill (lvl 40 or 60 would work for me as well) :)

This will take nothing away from the normal player's motivation to get to the mainland. It would greatly enhance the ability of those of us who have had a character there for months to assist the folks just coming in to help them more effectively.

Otherwise we have to constantly play the game of "shift your market inventory."

Trust me, you want us there!

And it would be ever so kind of you to actually help us help you as we help them.

Yay, i'm not the only one that would really like this :)

as u said available when a skill is at lv50. it wont impact on new players at all, but will make those of us that go there to make sure there is equipment available most happy :D

well, id rather hire someone that is even more into the game then any other player? pu gms there to welcome, but we are maby in short of that.
We can tho nevertheless have voolenters(lol spelling) and u make an application where u explain why u want to help there, welcome and Teach them the principals of the game.
I dont know if this sounds logical, but why do u need a mektoub in a newbie island? people dont want to stay there forever, at some point they move on.
U have nothing more to lvl forage/craft on as highest qlt is 20?
highest mob goes to lvl 30?
Sry but it doesnt make sence to send packers to newbie island, want packers they are in fh. if u still want to welcome people and teach them u can also stand in fh at all times and forage/craft a bit higher atleast.

I just cant seem to agree to having a packer in newbie island as noone cud afford it anyway.
But maby one of the other suggestions will b better?

well lets see, i have a char on the island who is lv50+ in 3 craft branches (and about 4mill in my pocket). it's fairly easy to put weapons and la on the market, but have u ever tried crafting 10 sets of HA with no access to packers? not fun, trust me on this :)

need a packer go to the real atys :)
Newbie island's is just to get familliar whit the game and buttons etc, everything can b explained if ur stationed on capitals att "all" time's.

and if u need to craft so many armors, sell em in batches of 3-5?

You completely missed the point, unfortunately.

(for Xavier's sake, that was not a put down or a personal attack, it is the truth as most anyone can see if you read my post then his)

But let me try to explain it to you:

I am on the mainland and have 3 packers a mount and an apartment and an ungodly amount of money that I have no idea what to do with except give away or put in the GH for outposts, etc.

I also have (as do several others) a character that stays on newbie island and always will - BECAUSE - I am there to HELP NEW PLAYERS!

I do this because I like to help others, I do it because I want new players not to get frustrated and leave, I do it to build a bond between new players and others even when the newb community is very sparse, and generally silent if I don't start conversation, I do it to provide them with half-way decent equipment so that it is FUN to progress without dying so much, I do it because seeing them have fun is fun for me.

One of the key things I do now is craft or heal out of team. Since my melee and magic is all lvl 30+ and the highest mob is lvl 21, there is no xp in it for me.

I dig and craft so that people have nice equipment. I can craft all patterns of LA, MA and HA, I can craft 6 different weapons up to lvl 40 (anything above 20 must be gought from the NPC, and is almost never needed), I can craft all the jewelry and I have HP and Focus boosts. I have 7 craft branches over 51 and my forage is around 70.

Wth no packer, I must carry all my jewels, tools, weapons and armor all the time on my person, which means I NEVER have more than 100 bulk free in which all my mats must be stored for crafting of all types, and trust me, people like all the different things I craft.

Although it is not my primary purpose, I and others are doing a TREMENDOUS service for Nevrax. What I ask for those of us in this position is help in helping the new players.

The rationale behind lvl 50 is that pretty much NOONE would be lvl 50 except those of us who have characters dedicated to newb island for the sake of assisting the new players.

BTW, I get less than 200xp for a full dig now. If I had dug the same number of mats/pulls on the mainland, I would be somewhere between lvl 150-200. Same goes for crafting.

Anyway, this thread is addressed not to other players who don't understand. It is addressed to Nevrax. Ask your Guides and GMs that visit the island every now and then. They can surely tell you the great service that many of us provide.

I wish i had met some of you guys on noob island. Three days and all i heard was "hi" from someone running past.

Anyway i will sign any petition to help people help people. I actuallly think there should be a mentor rite or similar where you have to be teleported back to noob isle in order to help one person complete a number of different tasks.

Anyone familiar with ATITD will know what im talking about, ingame mentorship programs can be really nice.

But until we get that i sure think a packer or three is the least you deserve :)

That idea is pretty good actually! i would definitely take up that rite!

I don't see the need to have the level requirement. Just put them up for sale at the normal prices. No low level noob will be able to afford one, so no change there. If someone has started a mentor character than they surely know the ins and outs and will be able to raise the money easily. Why force them to wait to get one?

Just make sure it's very clear that packers can't be brought to the mainland, so some poor noob doesn't work really hard to get a packer, just to find out he can't bring it with him.
