Ep 2/3. The black and the white.

Post by alyssah »

We have all had plenty of time for comment & discussion. Now it's time to separate the grey into black & white. I am old school and not much in favour of PvP/FvF but would like to state the case 'as is'.

THE BLACK:
Change is being made without much in the way of player input;
Old timers are seeing little regard for their opinions;
PvP/FvF is being imposed on the game;
It will become almost mandatory that factions are chosen;
Old allies are becoming enemies so the community is in danger of becoming a less friendly place;
Change management requires participant input. This did not happen;
December sees the French courts decide on Nevrax's future;

THE WHITE:
Jessica Mullins was employed to turn Nevrax's fortunes around;
Given limited time there was no way player consensus could be achieved;
A plan was devised to bring in new players;
The plan has so far been technically pretty well implemented;
There will be more new content in the game than ever was before;
The player base does seem to be expanding a little;

THE CHOICE:
To embrace the new changes or look around for something more suited.

Much as I don't like the methodology employed in wreaking these changes, I admire the way Jessica has steadfastly carried on with the developments. Her job is on the line and she has shown determination in relentlessly pursuing her goal.

Our part is to give it a go or watch Ryzom being consigned to the dustbin (trash can). I like the World of Ryzom and will give it a go for a few months to see if I can enjoy the new content. I think our time would be better spent suggesting balancing changes and generally being a little more positive. The forum infighting is frightening away new players. They are Ryzom's future.

The post is long & I have missed a lot of black and whites, but it is enough to give the flavour. Ok Jessica, I will go with your vision and hope most others do as well.

PS. I am def not a CSR.

Not after my post on CSR's giving biased opinions. One was closed & another removed. These are real opinions.

Neither of these seem particularly true.
Lots of established and important older players who added immeasurably to Atys have left.
Quite a few people have 'nipped back' for a look but whether they stay or not is another matter. Most of the 'nipped back' people I know aren't staying.
I don't think PvP constitutes much in the way of 'content'. It is a cheap way of adding _theoretically_ 'unlimited' 'content' but this is a false impression.

If outposts were more available and not exclusively PvP oriented from release I might agree.

The only true 'content' delivery we have on the horizon is R2 and info is scarceish on it.

There have been many suggestions, questions and so on, none of which appear to have been responded to yet. To go forward positively the community needs more information - also misinforming new players by being too chirpy isn't fair on them.

I don't expect new players to be misinformed but having such a split and vocal community isn't going to help.

The FvF content is here to stay, like it or lump it. If we remain in game then we can perhaps influence it a little after the plan is implemented. Jess has little time to get everything in place so we can expect little regard for additional input.

By Christmas we should be able to expect some of our ideas to receive consideration. Then if they don't, you have your answer.

Addressing some of them here, nowish, would be better. There's been time aplenty to discuss people's concerns and to have ways to address them.

If they don't know our opinions by now, they never will. It's going ahead. They have limited time. They will not make changes before implementation but they might afterwards. We can live in hope.

I'm not talking about changes. I'm talking about a proper acknowledgement and a touch of promise to keep people around, though its too late for many. Some indication that people HAVE been heard.

Part of my point is that we cannot really offer advice on improvements until we have tried it. Theoretically we can but not practically. Since only a little of the whole has been actioned, we can only theorise.

Answering some of the questions asked here would go a long way in adressing the concerns people have....
