If ranged worked in pvp.

As a friend of mine said. "think if the Ranged skill was working as it should, We would have a totaly diffrent way of playing."
Im counting out harvesters here is just plain silly...
If ranged worked and you could cripple the nukers with them you would need the tanks in front and Off-affs and def-affs supporting.
Things would be much more instesting.
Think about it.

Think about it.
Ranged can run and fire. Makes them hard to target for melees.

Yes what is what i mean. things would be diffrent.
Plus its the tanks job to take dmg mostly not giveing it on longe range.

Basically I don't see what's wrong with ranged other than the fact that the launcher and auto launcher ammo is much, much too heavy. In PvP those two weapons could very well serve as mage killers but the weight of the ammo makes them a total non-option.
Oh and I'm not even gonna go into the physics of ammo crafting as making matter out of thin air seems to be rather common on Atys. I suppose it's magic....

I have constantly complained about launcher bulk and that it would completely spoil the game for rangers. Changing bulk on range is as simple as changing bulk on TP tickets which they did without a hitch before (twice).
Using anything with less range puts you well inside nukers range before you can get a shot off. It only takes one shot to kill me or 2 at most from nukers, all before I can get a shot in. Even autolaunchers put you well inside range before you can fire and it won't do anything like 3k damage. So all our range skills are for naught.
In RL, rifles would have the longest range ( particularly if there was a sniper skill) but this is not reflected ingame. However, as a stop gap, I would ask that bulk be reduced to about one third of that existant atm.
How about an answer for that suggestion Lawrence and help rangers join in the fun please.

Im a master rifleman, craft my own stuff thats at q240 now, i think i caqlculated once that a q250 100% dmg bullet hits for 446 dmg or someything near there. Realise that is before armor reduces dmg.
Its been so long as i left Ryzom as game i play and have terminated account this week.
So dont shoot me if that dmg of q250 is a point more or less here n there
Anyway ranged combat has no use in the new lands or other pvp in a realistic sense. So i hit you for 450 dmg? (thats if your armor doesnt reduce that dmg to 0) You nuke me in 1 or maximum 2 nukes lol.
I think people in Aen armor doent even get dmg after the damage reduction of the armor.
When i started leveling my ranged seriously (till masters) i hoped Nevrax would fix ranged before outpposts, that it would be at the least very interesting to have the skill by that time. As with all in Ryzom, dont look forward, this what you have now is the game, no guarantees that will ever change.
There is absolutely no use for ranged, and yes it is broken Michielb.
There is one use for ranged and that is giving yourself a challenge, the challenge to level up a broken skill to masters.
You can discuss if it isnt broke for hours and hours theorizing about theories, but in practice it is, ofcourse you can kill a yubo or vorachious arma, but hitting a fellow level 250 for no dmg because armor absorbs all dmg might give you a hinyt about ranged functioning as it shoul have, or clearly as it is it doesnt funtion that way

I can add to that more and more arguments why ranged is broken and not functioning as intended could even add to that some of my beta experience about it but i really dont feel like having such discussions.

Do you know what I would like to see Mach. I would like to see as many posts complaining about range being way too powerful as there is about nuking. Now that would be something.
