New player questions

Hello everyone. I have finally brought my computer to a state in which I can feasibly try out Ryzom. So far it's looking pretty good, and in fact it has advanced a bit since the last time I had my hands on it (which I think was back in Beta). I have a few questions about issues of significant concern to me.

1. Is there a lot of traveling involved in playing SoR? If so, can fast transportation be purchased?

2. How do you avoid the "grinding rut"?

3. What is it that you like or love about SoR that made you stick with the game?

4. What do you really dislike about the game and wish you could change?

5. Finally, any advice for a newcomer?

Thanks in advance for your time, and I hope to see you in-game!!

Hi and welcome back.

Plenty of travel, first few trips may need a group though, and many sites have altars that sell tickets for a return trip. One ticket= one trip.

I avoid it by refusing to think of anything as a "grind". I set goals if I wish, and i aim for them if I wish.

Azukia has made a home for herself in Atys. She has her dreams of what that life could be. She stays to see if she can actually bring her dream to life.

I'll pass on the dislike stuff. Each will see what they see with their own eyes.

Yes, have fun!

1. There are many teleporters arround, these teleporters are used by first finding the teleporter (or TP as they are often called), then buy a teleportation ticket. that ticket will appear in your inventory, and you can right click to use that tp ticket at any time to teleport to that place again.

2. Event, Treks, Exploring, Chatting, Adventures. This game is very much a make your own path, do what you wanna do and do something else if you get bored kinda game. Grind is there, but you dont have to do it, there is plenty else.

3. The friendly community, still love for the game, and actually feeling that you are a part of atys.

4. At the moment i dislike Nevraxs attitude and shortsightedness regarding episode two, similar to Patch 1 (a few months after the game was released) in which they changed the way the game worked/played and forget to think about how the players would think about this. But they usually shine through in the end.

5. Have fun, tka e a look at the "guilds" page on the forum, a good guild means a good playing time. and never be a fraid to ask for a ressurection (rez) in region chat

1) yes there is. There are teleporters, but you have to walk once there to buy a ticket. For medium distances sometimes a mount is fun :)

2)There is some grind. I dont have any advice. Be careful and change activities as often as possible
3)quite realistic and beautyful environment, the PvE part of the game can be much fun if you are in a funny team :)
4)factional competition

5)Take care, take it slow and enjoy as much as possible. You sure will join a guild. Be careful not to advance too fast. Try to find your own way into the higher levels

First of all, welcome to the game and the best MMORPG community around. :) Now to answer your questions:

1) Yes, faster transportation can be purchsed. There are teleporters all over Atys, usually 2 in each region, you may purchase teleport tickets there so it'll be a lot easier to get around. Although, you have to walk to the teleporters the first time to buy the tickets, but the original exploration is part of the fun.

2) As for the "grinding rut," that really depends on what you like to do. Ryzom, like most MMORPG's is lvl based, the higher lvl you are the more powerful you are, the easier it is to go places and do other interesting things. But grinding is not the only thing to do, there are events, region to region treks, PvP, missions, or do what a lot of people do, spend some time helping new players even when there's no tangible gain for you. It's still fun and makes a nice break when you get to get burned out on grinding lvl's.

3) What I like about Ryzom....hmm....there's a few things actually. The communty, on average is more mature than other MMORPG's I've played. No classes, you can do anything and everything if you so choose, which also means if you change your mind later, you don't have to make a whole new character. Having the ability to edit your actions to custom tailor your skills for a particular situation, simply brilliant.

4) My biggest issue with Ryzom is the lack of soloability. It's simply not practical past a certain point for any of your combat related skills. On a side note, this is why guilds are so popular and why it's important that you hook up with a guild that can suit your needs as a growing player.

5) Atys can be a bit overwhelming at first and it's a dangerous place for a new player, find some players who are willing to help answer your questions, give you some tips and lookout for you.

have fun, get used to DP, begging for rez in region is not nice (and being angry at ppl who didnt rez you is equaly bad)

you only get DP based on you highest lvl (it's wise to keep your harvest higher, so you are able to get DP off solo).
max DP is 10 times you normal DP.

formula for getting rid of dp is
xp_gained * skill_used/10
(do the math, and you find that begging for rez in region is pointless)

that all does not mean that you die alot ;-) but if you do, take DP lol (if you in remote place that is)

most people will make the effort to rez you if you ask (politely), it gives them something to do :D
by the time you start getting killed in areas where rescue is impossible, you should be competent enough to deal with it :)

the best way to learn is with another player, so learn healing and careplanning.

Please, this is unfair. This is a new player who doesnt know anything and probably will like the game as it is now.
Dont bring your frustration into new player question threads. Many here are upset about the changes but we are upset cause we know the game as it was. Every veteran is free in his decissions how to handle the new direction of the game.

Thank you for your answers! I am looking forward to learning about all the things mentioned in this thread.

I have more questions, which I will post in a different thread. Thanks again!
