Question to Nevrax

Since the release of ep2 the forums have been in a state of unrest. Many longtime players have expressed their concerns regarding the future of SoR but so far the only thing we got was the announcement some "fine tuning" will be done on a system that is fundmentally flawed.

I subscribed to this game over a year ago after two rather dissapointing extensions to AO. Based on the information I got from playing Open Beta 1 and the game info/plans/ambitions on the website I figured this game would be different from the cookie cutter MMO's that dominated and still dominate the market.

Having experienced the rat race to the lvl cap in AO in order to be effective in PvP I decided not to go that path again but instead take it slow and have some fun on the way to the top. There was no PvP in SoR so no need to be the biggest baddest MOFO around and i was pleasantly surprised by the friendly helpfull community. All of that has gone to waste.

From where I'm sitting it looks like SoR is gravitating toward being your run of the mill MMO with only pretty graphics to set it appart. Needless to say I'm saddened by this as I was thrilled to be a part of the exciting world that was Ryzom. Saddened also because future plans for this game seem to leave no room for the kind of gameplay that drew me to SoR in the first place an kept me playing all this time.

Right now I could shrug and leave ep2 to those who do like it, ignore what has happened and go on playing as I have before. Isolate myself from that part off the game I want no part of and go on like nothing happened. Right now I still have that choice even if it mean I'll be missing out on some of the new stuff that been introduced.

What I would like to know is will I still have that choice 6 months from now? And what about a year from now?

In this gloomy future will I have to put up with and endless FvF war with neutrals and non PvP missing out on key features?

Will I still be able to ress my friends regardless of faction save for some FvF zones where a non PvPer like myself has no buissness anyway?

Will I be able to take advantege from outposts without being forced to PvP?

Will I still be able to room the lands without the fear of being nuked simply because certain players don't like me?

How many of the cool creative ideas that were said to make it into this game have been abandoned and how many are still to come?

How many loudmouth PvPers do you intend to draw into this game before you realise they're the ones who will destroy every chance you had of realising the ideas you had when you created this game?

In short how big will the impact be you future plans have on my gameplay and enjoyement of this game? Is it gonna be worth the wait or should I cancle my one year subscription today and wait for the next developer to fool me into believing that THIS time they'll do things differently?

One has to have the desire to hear to be able to listen.

Yep, you are right. After being promised new 'content' we find that it is totally out of character with the rest of the game. It is placed right on the doorstep of a loyal player base so you can't ignore it. It attacks the values that were developed, friendship, working together and having choices in what we do.

It encourages us not to think of each other as individuals but as targets or points in a scoring system.

After being told that Nevrax would listen to existing users, it can be seen as a two finger salute.

The big problem is that SoR is not a good PvP game, there are better PvP games out there. Any newcomer coming into this game for PvP needs to level on stuff they won't like before they are competitive; it will take them months before they can participate in PvP at a decent level. Why should a new PvP player bother when they can go onto other games and participate straight away. Then for the existing high-level players, how long can it hold their interest; a week, two weeks?

If only they had run two events at the same time. The existing Aelius PvP zone and new lands to explore. Then those who wanted to explore and team could do so leaving Aelius to those who wanted to play there. Maybe Aelius should have had portals to new lands, that would have been far more interesting than the bland PvP oriented land that we have now.

I feel that Nevrax have got it wrong; they don't seem to understand that many of us chose this game because of its community, because its a place we feel that we belong. They have tried to follow the route of so many other games, but that is precisely the type of game that many of us don't want to play.

I still believe that there is a place for PvP/FvF/GvG in Ryzom but they must retain the same values that make it unique at the same time. It is the implementation and positioning of this event that worries me. It shows insensitivity to the players need.

I sincerely hope that they realise their mistakes and are able to listen to what we have said and correct it in the next stage of the saga. They PvP should stay but done in a way that is less in-your face to the existing non PvP players.

this is not meant to be yarapvpiep2, but suggestions and some non-PvP player view how it would have been better.

simple choice would be: make lower quality (shell/resin) to non FvF zone. only some 50m around zone where harvesters can dig in peace. (in and out would still be FvF)

harder to code, but better and more meaning for PvP:
with (regular ?) mat/crafted items convoys from kami/karavan camp to portal out of harvest/craft zone (non-PvP zone) to other FvF land where PvP ppl can gank each other and have fun (defend/attack convoy)
only if convoy reaches it's destination, construction will be built depending how many mats/items was transported. or convoy only starts to move when it's full.
it would be uber fun for PvP'ers if you could take enemy convoy and lead it to your own camp.
