Critique of Episode 2

Amid all the cancellation threads and Joo Roxxor, I Pwnzr comments I couldn't find anything to look like helpful feedback to Nevrax. So I'm going to try and make one, fanbois and haters please go home now (wishful thinking I know).

The Good
New storyline content and Dynamic content at that! Finally contributing to a real story where we don't know what will happen tomorrow but we can influence it.

The Bad.
It is PvP-only and PvP-mandatory. This has caused enough debate recently that it should have been realized that this is bad, bad, bad. People who don't want to subject themselves to PvP (Which is typically a majority of the MMO playerbase) are left out of Episode 2 entirely... a bitter pill to swallow.

Good:
We have a real conflict on Atys and something to make sense and worth fighting over.

Bad:
Nobody knows who in-game the Kami and Karavan are. Rites are still missing and background info is missing if you don't follow the website religiously... and even then you aren't necessarily sure what is going on.

Wish it was good: Kitin threat

Bad: They respawn too fast like they always do. Respawn times on Atys should be doubled. What was that about killing too many Kitins? yeah, whatever. Plus kitin levels and type are the same all over. How about making mob level match resource level? Low level fighters/mages/crafters are also totally excluded.

No good side to it: Being forced into pre-determind sides and roles.
Where is the neutral side? Why is someone with .5 Kami fame just as valued as someone with 100? Put your blasted fame system to use sometime here.

Suggestions

#1) Non-PvP content with a way to earn honor points. Rites? exploring the homins old lands? Kitin threat? Nevrax keeps hacking away at its playerbase, which is exactly what solely supporting the high level PvPers will do. You're excluding non-PvPers and anyone who hasn't had a chance to level up to 200+ levels to have a chance to fight.

#2) Take PvP off from around the temples. They haven't been trouble yet, but they will if given time.

#3) Try to design an "old land" and less of a boxing ring.

#3) Focus on non-PvP content for a while... you've been heavily overdoing it on PvP. Remove the senseless PvP zones on the known sections of Atys and add something interesting to them.

#4) Focus on getting old players back, not on driving more away and trying to get new players to replace them. New players are being scared away by the old players who left, and new players can't catch up with the old players in this game very well at all if you make it competitive.

#5) Better PvP tools. Blue dots shouldn't turn into red dots... too confusing.

#6) Add the guild of Tryton into the game for those who want to be neutral.

---

Courtesy of Pr0ger:
- Design something to let people below participate (w/ or w/o pvp) . As posted in another thread by Jyudas, kitins guard levels corresponding to mats level. So lvl-100ish team can participate

- The jewel protection thingy seems really useless against 2 or even 1 nuker 50m away. Fast calculation gives that even sup jewels will still let 1200 HP damage hits you at every AoD cast.

- More restrictive (or punitive) honor-by-fight system (e.g killing lonesome diggers gives almos nothing, killing lowbies too. Only strong, ready-to-fight people will give honor). Also killing some kitin must give honor (so *all* people can participate and enjoy)

- Even more, people who didnt started any honor missions shouldn't be PvP engaged in such area but still granted access (allowing recon, reporting, movie-shooting, etc) of course they could be hit by kitins, or even protects diggers and healing, and such trouble could be the hominist/neutral faction. Such behavior could give some kind of honor points too (lowering any kami/kara honors, to balance)
This third-party people should add some interesting support/trouble

I made a similar postbut I guess it got buried amidst the commotion...

I posted in another thread http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showpost.php ... stcount=98

Main points:
The layout of Aelius was designed for PvP.
PvP was encouraged by the honour points system.

is not PVP, is Faction versus Faction, so is stil RPG... who can't accept this... is an his problem... who readed the story of Atys before start game already know about a future faction war ages ago... if someone started play without the right infos is again his problem only

This game has a REAL story to read... much better of other mmorpgs where u can check only which set of items rock for your class.... so just go on site and read... this is still RPG attitude...
Bad: They respawn too fast like they always do. Respawn times on Atys should be doubled. What was that about killing too many Kitins? yeah, whatever. Plus kitin levels and type are the same all over. Is not true, I'm lvl 50 desert forager and I got mats 4 quest.
By the way if u (not u, in general) started play the game yesterday u can't pretend to be the number one hero in a game started ONE + year ago... I think the level of mobs is quite ok, if u're very low level u can always heal...
No good side to it: Being forced into pre-determind sides and roles.
Where is the neutral side? Why is someone with .5 Kami fame just as valued as someone with 100? Put your blasted fame system to use sometime here.
The game is evolving while players playing it... until now a "neutral" faction was not required... now that is required maybe the devs will introduce it ingame and in story :)
I agree, a neutral faction should fix some mind-oriented player problems.
I hope in future the followers of Kami will get some extra exclusive skills as Karavan followers will get some new skills... and the neutral what they will get? - no god, no divine protection... u know?!

why u wanna say "troubles" and not "fun"...
#3) Try to design an "old land" and less of a boxing ring.

After a year of not pvp how can u say "you've been heavily overdoing it on PvP"?... man I saw the gms dance at one event... I though was a joke but no, it was real!!!! an event when the guides dance and all players sit down to watch them...
This one is the best event ever made, another cool one (non pvp) was the treasure hunt in the prime roots...
...And I see people like event like "fight the goo gibbais"... but ehi! let me think... they like fight a mass of non intellect mobs and hate fight a mass of players... WHY?... maybe fear to be killed by another player? instead the fact mobs = death penality, pvp = no death penality...
#4) Focus on getting old players back, not on driving more away and trying to get new players to replace them. New players are being scared away by the old players who left, and new players can't catch up with the old players in this game very well at all if you make it competitive.
I'm an old player and I love this new "fresh air"... if the devs will delete it for follow some childish lamers players I'm gonna think seriously for the first time to leave the game forever... cause I'm tired to see a beautiful game wasted by nonsense things and happy peace and love @##^?$£%£$& players.
#5) Better PvP tools. Blue dots shouldn't turn into red dots... too confusing.
WHAT? this is the funny part!!!!! damn... u're really scared about die isn't?
btw, jokes a part, is more realistic in that way...
#6) Add the guild of Tryton into the game for those who want to be neutral.
good idea at the begin, after some time it will become only a third pvp faction... is in the humankind nature to be wary... u can't stop that.
(And when is a GAME-thyngy I DON'T WANT STOP IT, cause is only fun... players feared of challenge can still play single players game...)

Slightly splitting hairs there. So you're telling me no player fought another player last night? :p

Show me where it said we would be forced to a particular side. Show me where it said we'd have non-consensual PvP like this?
evilek wrote:After a year of not pvp how can u say "you've been heavily overdoing it on PvP"?... man I saw the gms dance at one event... I though was a joke but no, it was real!!!!
He's talking about the devs focusing on PvP, not events in the game. Look at all the things they have developed of late. All designed around PvP. How about focusing on developing some of the other aspects of Ryzom for a change? Give us some non-PvP content!

I'm an old player too, been playing this game since OB1, and I am sick of you l33t lovers. The childish ones were in the PvP zone last night mate. Go play WoW. :p

Please understand, I do not believe XipeTotecPrime speaks for everybody in Ouroboros Nocturna . If it turns out that I am wrong in this, I will resign my officer status, and leave that guild.

IC (no PvP comments):
No, not really.
The kami have apparently asked their followers to dig like crazy and raise a temple in their honour.
The Zorais have rebelled against a similar incident before; The karavan forced the Zorais to dig mats instead of fighting the goo. That is happening again, although not quite as forceful.
Why would the kami's waste their natural resources on a flimsy temple? They are spirits of nature, surely such a construction goes against nature.
We saw a kami representive claim that was what they wanted. There have been other false emissaries before, and I say this is another one.
As for our leaders, both kami and karavan, I find they behave in a manner which is most odd and contradictive. Zorai gurus and sages calling for war!

One thing is for sure, there is something very fishy going on. And I think now is the time to seek other lands, before the nefarious plots gets too deadly to hominkind.
I am begining to see some of what Nayr is saying. Though I don't agree on joining the karavan, there most be some other forces out there, maybe the dragon is the answer?

...so the devs are childish as well for had designed this game based on some conflicts PVP?
what the point of a mmorpg if u're against some A.I. in loop everytime?!... is not a point of a mmorpg challenge with other players?
btw I'm, the childish one, was in pvp area diggin... got nuked and nuked someone else as fire back... where's the problem? pvp=no death penality.
(HONOUR pvp is not leading aggro mobs on opposite factions btw... or at least in my opinion...)
