TERRIBLE lag inside cities

Hi everyone , I'm sorry to post this but I've been having some serious lag problems and don't know what else to do.

While I was on the island I didn't have such terrible lag (expect for the late server problems) but now that I'm on the mainland I just HAVE to stay FAR AWAY from cities or the game simply becomes unplayable!
EVERY SINGLE TIME I'm near a city , my ping shoots up from 150/200 to 650/700... and I don't think I should be having such great problems with my cable connection as I used to play games like FFXI , SWG or Lineage2 without any connection problems at all!

I've tried reducing all the visual and sound options to a minimum and it does help a little bit , but not even that can solve my problem.

I have a PIV 2.4Ghz Processor , 512MB RAM and a Geforce IV Ti4400 along with my cable connection , I don't know if I should be able to play Ryzom nicely with this or not , but after playing games like UT2004 , FFXI or Doom3 perfectly I start to wonder...

Thanks in advance!

sheesh, anyone else getting these lag issues? I cant wait to get off noobieland to see some new scenery (noob deserts are just, well all
desert-y) Ive been blown away by EQ2 trailers but having reallly enjoyed French/european games in the past (Flashback or Another World on the Amiga anyone? Or a long stroll through the often overlooked little gem, Outcast.....) theres no way i was gonna pass the chance to savour ryzom to see if MMORPGs were a genre id like to get into.

My overall system spec wasnt as fast as rics, see below, but recently killing my 9800PRO o/c in Doom3 (doh!) forced me to bite the bullet and grab the x800pro with HL2 and all the groovy D3 mods just around the corner. I guess you could say Im in that 'new card, need shiny games' headtrip you somehow cant avoid ;)

It might sound lame but after nearly 25 years of hardcore gaming I kinda like great gfx in my games these days. And what Ive seen of the simple noob island makes me really look forward to the mainland. As i mentioned im not the greatest RPG fan in the world but even with the steep learning curve and challenge to get past the'i dont feel Im in control of this fight!' that I felt initially Ryzom has been a blast. If the mainland plays as well as the island then I might be glad I signed up for an initial 3 months to give the game a chance (Im a married dad of 3 so i cant sit around for days on end playing as much as Id LOVE to!)

However if the lag spoils the xperience then I might wait for SOEs alternative. I had hours of fun during my 2 years on Planetside and had zero lag issues there. Ever. Not even in the enormous battles (with squad voice comms I might add) during the really early days that some of you may well have experienced. To be fair Ive had zero lag so far on noob island but its not excactly bristling with content / players; at the times I play (usually between 10.00 pm and 3.00 am) the most Ive seen this week at one time is maybe a dozen?

SOE have had enough of my money for now tho, and I would love MMO gaming to become even more sucessful than home consoles so just now Id rather throw some cash at the other side of the pond too; after all, wild horses couldnt part me from my xbox live subscription eh Mr Gates? :)

As I say Im hoping that lag isnt an issue on a 1mb BT ADSL connection to a Euro server. If Ric is experiencing 'terrible' lag so early on in the game should I be worried? And b4 the flamewar (hehe kidding) whats wrong with whining a little? Its not that the online part is tacked on to a sublime singleplayer experience. Devs must realise that as soon as a MMO is released it should be released in a format which does excactly what is says on the tin, be playable online by a massive audience immediately. Come Nov 11th, Im sure Halo 2 playes will be getting just that.

Wow this has been a ramble (3 am here on a friday nite hehe) and sorry if I sound angry (btw im not at all). Its just that after a week Ryzom has its claws in me big time! The community (including the devs) is nearly as great as the game and this has sooo helped the trip for noobs like me. Id really hate it if unnessary issues like lag snapped me out of the hot windy deserts of Ryzom and plonked me back into rainy gloom of Ireland!

Any other feedback on lag following the server DT last night would be appreciated. Take it easy :)

wb2004,

lags come and go... thats what i learned in the last years playing various mmorpgs. this also applies for ryzom. there has been terrible lag ingame, yes. the devs listened and worked hard to fix that issues and... they made it, they patched and the lag should be gone for good now. see http://ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t ... ge=1&pp=10

don't worry about the future, enjoy the game *now* ... thats what i am try to do too ;)

see you somewhere ;)

Yes I'm sure it comes and goes , but one thing is for sure , it didn't go yet...

I'm still experiencing terrible lag even outside cities and the game is almost unplayable for me atm , the "Please Wait" message have decreased but the overall lag hasn't , as a matter of fact this game now looks as SWG did a month or so ago when (for some mistake) the game simply started lagging like never before , and the problem was only properly fixed more than 1 month after it's appearance. I hope it's not the case here...

As I've said before , if my connection is good enough for everything else on the market it should be good enough for this as well , especially considering that this time I'm actually playing on an European server! There were times when I had to play on NA or Asian servers and even there I experienced better conditions.

Well , I still remember on Open Beta having to connect through a PROXY in order to even play this game , so I guess it's a lot better , but still... I have faith this will be fixed as soon as possible. Good luck! :)

I have been playing a bit with my Tryker character as well as a new Fyros crafter/harvester still on newbie island, and pretty much everyone I talked to aggreed that the warping/rubberbanding issues were still very severe.

I am assuming that the "fix" you applied last night was not to be the final one? :)
