Actions, Stanza, Graphical Programming

I'm just a few days into this game, and lovin' it. I just discovered last night that one can edit their "actions" and create new ones. But.... Is there any good help on how to do this? I assume I can't put all my damage dealing abilities into one crazy action, but what are the limits? What are cool things that you veterans wished you'd know earlier on?
