Kiss of Jena ~ is it worth it?

Okay, here's what happened to me today:

I was hunting doggies. As I spotted one, and decided to approach it for a battle, my computer froze.

I rebooted and logged back in. I found my char dead in the rain.

So now I have new dp. I was desperately trying to up my skill levels before this incident in order to better my char in battle (my HP, Stam and Focus levels are waaay uneven at this time). So, great, now I'm set back again.

So I figured that maybe it would be worth it to buy a "Kiss of Jena" to help alieviate my dp. But it only works best when you're not ingame. for a couple of days. In addition, I've been told that they are "a waste of dappers" anyway.

So, in essence, my understanding is that I must either haggle folks to go battle with me so that I can get rid of my dp, or go fight big mobs at the risk of gaining more dp at the wacked-out skill levels I'm at right now, or buy a Kiss of Jena and leave the game for days.

I do understand that there are other games that have dp penalties, some more harsh than this one. But I've never played those games, that I know of, so this is totally new to me. In the end, I went and foraged my way out of the dp time-out corner. However, if I ever wanted to use KoJ, would it be worth it or not?

ok, in regards to DP, use your highest level that's available and just do something that goes quick and would result in moderate experience. it's not important how much you get, but rather how much you get in a certain time segment. about the DP pacts: if you have dp and are ready to call it a day, buy the highest one, log out, go to bed, log in the next day and the dp will be gone or at least a big chunk of it. ;)

The DP removal pacts do have their uses, but it depends on a couple of things.

1st thing to consider is your current level, if your character is still relatively new, you'd probably get rid of your DP in a few kills/forages anyways, so I'd say it's not really worth it.

2nd thing is, as xenofur mentioned, it depends on where you are in your day of playing. The DP removal pacts work passively, meaning that if you buy a pact then run off and kill stuff for forage mats, your DP does not come off any faster than it normally would. They simply increase the natural rate in which your character sheds its DP. The only time I use them is if I get DP and will be logging off for the night. They are definitely helpful when used in that fashion, otherwise I think it's a waste of dappers.

In regards to getting rid of your DP, the rate at which you lose your DP by performing actions (killing, forageing, etc) is not directly tied to exp points but rather the lvl skill you are using in relation to your highest skill. The higher lvl skill you use, the faster it comes off. So if you were level 50 melee but lvl 100 foraging, you'd be much better digging off your DP than fighting it off.

My family had just come home from a birthday celebration, and I"m so tired that I had to read this part twice, and s l o w l y. But, I got it! It makes good sense. ;8^)

Thank you both for taking the time out to help me get this right.

dp removal = skill lvl used * experience gained without dp

So the xp does make a difference, in that using a lvl100 skill with 1500 xp each kill will make you loose dp just as fast as a lvl50 skill giving 3000 xp...

dp removal = skill lvl used / 10 * experience gained without dp

maybe they changed it? Last time I had diff calculations. Either way, using the highest skill is not always faster as xp will be less and risk will be higher or dp will be slower ( lvl 220+ digging, one dig with proper xp takes ages...)

Hello Fry,

No, it has always been like this (e.g. http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showpost.php?p=82586&postcount=36) max DP removal is 75k DP points, killing e.g. a named using a 250 skill.

cheers

max dp removal is higher than that (crafting gets more than 3k in some places ;)
I can clear my dp in 5 amps worth of crafting.

But it is an awful lot of materials to use.
