9/29 Patch problems

On my main computer, yesterday's patch worked as intended. But, on my wife's machine (2 Ghz, 768mb memory), it will not load. The patch loaded, she relaunched the game, selected her toon and clicked Play.
The progress pics along the bottom filled in as normal and then when it filled in the final picuture, it just hung there. We let it sit for over 10 minutes and it never gets beyond this point.
I tried setting her graphic settings way down and trying again. No difference. We rebooted and tried again. Again, no love. This is a machine that was working fine (not great, but fine) up until this latest patch.
The game thinks she is logged in (I see her name lit up in my friend's list).
Any suggestions? I'm thinking about uninstalling, reinstalling and re-patching. But if there are any other ideas, I'm open.
Thanks for any help

Try running the ryzom recover, and login with her computer first.

Thanks, I'll try the recover program.
I'm not sure why logging in with her machine first will make any difference. My setup has static ip's and completely separate accounts for the 2 of us. So, there should be no real relationship between our two machines as far as the game is concerned.

I'm having the same problem, and I did run ryzom_recover, and it made no difference

I just checked my game logs and it looks like the server IP has changed. Some firewall/security software like Norton chokes a bit when this happens. Try removing the entry for the Ryzom game client and let it get recognised again on her machine.

Another thing is that some firewall/security software like Norton chokes a bit when things get patched. Try removing the entry for the Ryzom game client and let it get recognised again on her machine. Also make sure that the UDP 47851 port is opened in any firewalls.
Please refer to the FAQ about refreshing Ryzom if you are doing Ryzom_recover as it is not as simple as running it just once. Also there are FAQs on Networking and LinkSys (and others) routers.
Did something in the 9/29 patch change regarding the firewall issue?
Because, nothing in my network configuration has changed. The *only* change since the last time she successfully logged in and played is the patch.
Lastly, there is no NAT going on in my config. As I said, we have static IP's, so we are very independent machines. We've never had trouble running the game at the same time before. In fact, she only plays because I do, so she's never run the game without me being logged in.

OK, did you just edit your post? It now looks like I made up my reply from thin air.
So, something has changed on the IP side. I will double-check this, but we are both using XP's firewall and it only affected her. Also, if it were IP based, wouldn't we have trouble connecting early in the process and not hang at the very end of the process? This seems counter-intuitive, but I'll give it a try when I get home tonight.
Thanks everyone for your help.

There are 3 servers involved when playing Ryzom, each with separate IP addresses. Only the game server uses UDP and seems to be most prone to losing connection and is the one that causes the most trouble when its IP changes.
I have no idea why her machine would not be working and yours does.
I use Win XP firewall myself and have never lost connection once I made the exception for UDP 47851. Maybe it is your network device that needs some changing. I use a WinXP machine as my network gateway/router and then a wireless switch behind that. This configuration has never given me any trouble when there are two connections to the Ryzom game servers.

I've looked at the client log files under the Ryzom directory. It appears to be exchanging SYNC and ACK_SYNC with the server (but the log doesn't show IP addresses so I don't know how many servers it is speaking with)
Game load gets as far as giving me a glimpse of Thesos landscape, where I last logged, but stops short of loading people, creatures, buildings, etc and actually turning over control so I can play.
port 47851/udp is the server port, yes? and responses from server go to the client ephemeral port? or is there a nailed-up client port that needs a port-forwarding rule on the gateway device?
I've added ryzom_client_rd.exe, ryzom_recover.exe and 47851/udp to the WinXP SP2 firewall exception list on the game machine. (Funny, the game ran fine without these prior to installing the patch, and I have rebooted the game machine since installing the patch and updating the WinXP exception list)
