I need help with skills

Im new to the game and I have a few questions.
Firstly I do not understand stanzas. I realize they are skills that you can spend points on but once purchased I cant use them. Im not even sure what some of them do.
Aslo Is there a thread or guide about all the different skills, what they do, what order I should purchase them in, how to use them etc etc?
I decided to put all my points from harvesting into HP and stamina regeneration to help my fighting skills out. Now im having trouble harvetsing and raising the level because of my stupidity

Should I just restart?
A lot of listed skills do not really give a good description of what they do. So I ask again, is there a guide or a list for further explanation on skills?
thanks again

Some things you'll have to pick up along the way, but there are many good websites out there with details you wont find here on SoR. You can find a link to our site in my sig, that should cover a few of your questions.

there isnt really a worthwhile guide...
The best thing to do is to hang out with some more experienced players who your like and they should be able to answer your questions on the spot!
With regards to harvesting... it is best to put harvest spending points straight into harvesting! I personally found that harvesting was the hardest skill to get to level 100 and so it needs all the spending points it can get!
If you have only put in 2-3 levels worth of harvest SP into Hitpoints i wouldn't change your Char

Stanzas for Dummies vol. 1
Left column (options)= cool stuff (ie increase damage, accurate, higher sap heal, faster extraction)
Right column (credits) = the stuff you gotta give up for the aforementioned 'cool stuff' to work (ie sap credit (consumes x# of sap)
Left column total MUST be equal to or LESS than the right column.
So pull up a new stanza (click on an empty shortcut) and hit the 'options' button and see what you got. Add what you want, then hit 'credits'. Fill enough of those credits in so that you can hit 'memorize stanza.'
VOILA!!!
Stanza!!

Yeah, using harvest and craft to buy anything you can get with fight/magic is unwise. Fight and magic are much easier to get skills with. Harvest does get to be relatively easy around level 120 or so, but magic is by far the easiest skillset to get points in. Craft is the hardest, and I would recommend spending craft points only on craft-specific skills. Use harvest to get focus, there are so many craft plans you will never have enough craft points.
I don't know of any comprehensive guides - a lot of it depends on what kind of character you want. Gfunk had some great videos but I'm not sure where they went. My general advice is to focus on stats (keep them up) and try to use magic points, then fight points, then harvest points, then craft points (magic points are probably the best idea for buying stanzas like invulnerability and speed). In general here are some decent "priorities":
For fight. #1, taunt, increase damage, stam credit, hp credit. #2 aim, circle attack, self heal hp, melee protection aura, ignore armor (if using piercing weapons), attack after parry. #3 bleed (if using slashing weapons), invulnerability, speed, attack after dodge.
For nuking. #1, cold, acid, hp credit, sap credit. #2 rot, range credit. #3 time credit, create sap crystal, invulnerability, speed. (Nuking is mostly a matter of keeping your damage spells and stats up, until you reach double spell and the racial spells).
For healing. #1, heal life, hp credit, range credit. #2 time credit, sap credit, stam heal, sap heal. #3 create sap crystal, invulnerability, speed. (Most of healing is balancing your credits out. Things like bomb effect are really not worthwhile unless you have spare credits, and don't even think about balance hp or vampirism)
For harvesting (up to level 75 or so). #1 gentle quality, land specialization (available at level 50). #2 gentle rate, gentle speed, care plans (get these early if you want to care for others - a quick way to get xp when you're getting started), prospecting angle, prospecting distance. #3 prospect up to choice, number of sources, material specialization. (The rest can all be useful, and sometimes very important at the high levels, but at low levels these are good priorities - stay away from source time, you really don't need it and it usually does more harm than good)
For crafting. #1 craft skill (craft matis armor, or whatever is relevant for you). #2 specific plans (matis medium heavy boots, etc). (That's all I would do for a while - bonuses may be very appealing, but they are also expensive. You can probably afford them but you may want to hold off for a while, usually low-level items don't sell anyhow and having those extra points will do a lot of good early on. You may want to push all your crafts up to 50 or so before specializing - that will give you many points for plans and bonuses in your "main" field. Focus on one specialization after that - you will have a much easier time building up other branches if you can overcraft with that branch. For example, if you want to be a jeweler craft diadems up to level 100 before raising earrings above level 50.)

Thanks for all the responses. I figured out everything i needed to know. Honestly, the game is not very noobie friendly when you first jump into starter island. There are a couple of welcomers which dont really tell you anything and then you are left to fend for yourself not having any real direction or any explanation of skills or what you should be doing etcetc. I was lucky enough to stumble upon a veteran player who had reactivated his account and grouped with him. I bombared him with question after question for hours and he taught me a lot. If I had not run across him I proabably would have cancelled my account due to sheer lack of frustration. I must have made 8 characters in 2 days beacuse I didnt know wtf i was doing.
My suggestion to the game developers, and I dont even know if they will read this but the beginning tutorial sucks and explains nothing. The description of the skills after you click on them also suck. The welcomers arent helpful and they should have some type of PC guides on the starter island to help out newcomers.

they really should have game vets have acess to both the island and the chat line. that way we could help you guys when you are stuck in the starter islands. I(Feleinor ingame

) had a lot of trouble to, but i found this one guy who restarted. helped me out waay to much

. but once you guys get to the actual region, a lot of people help, especially me. Im sappingly nice and helpful to all the newbies coming in

No need to create a new char cause you used harvest sps on combat skills. I made the same choice early on and was harvester challenged for a while but have managed to recover. Best advice is to ditch the island and get to the ML ASAP where veteran players can help you. Good luck and enjoy your stay on Atys.
