Hiho, welcome *waves*
Don't worry, you'll meet people, lots of them... ...once you're off the starter island.
Nontheless, even if it might be very lonely on the isle, try to get comfortable with your actions and maybe even customizing them there. You won't ever find yourself in equal peace and quietness once you left there
Head off for your capitol once you feel comfy (or simply too lonely, there's also possibilities to train an untrained character there).
Also, things might appear to be very confusing. Just ask anybody around, almost everybody will answer your questions willingly. The command to see who is in the region you're in is "/who".
As for the housing, there is player housing. You can buy a player's appartement at every city offering some as long as you have good fame with them. Unfortunately, you will only be able to enter the first appartement you ever bought (You can buy thousands, if you can afford it, though. Maybe at some later point in development you either can access the other's or won't be able to buy more than one

).
Also counting toward housing are guild halls. Every guild can and propably does own one and every guild member can access it any time.
Needless to say that both do cost a fair amount of money that new players won't be able to afford in the beginning. Lateron, that shouldn't pose a problem anymore, though.
Have fun while you're here

It might turn out to be a long time...
