Power leveling new players.

I just started playing this game and I LOVE it.

However I question the many offers I get nightly for power leveling or gifts. I find situations like this diminish the enjoyment and longjevity of the new player experience.

What are your opinions? What are typical experiences that you come across with new players?

Are you still on the training island? If so, I wouldn't worry too much about the ethics of the powerlevelling offers. Specifically if it is in reference to "when you get to the main land" type of chat.

Here's the important bit...

For the most part, the community agrees that the training islands need some work to be more inviting and instructive to newer players. So . . . mainland guilds will have some alt characters on the training islands to get new players to the "real world" ASAP where they can participate a bit more in the "bigger picture".

The in-game guides say something like "you should be lvl 20 in every skill before you should leap to the mainland".

Us veterans are saying...don't worry about that magic " 'lvl 20' number, just get to the mainland and we can help".

At any rate, you'll find this community willing and eager to help so we hope to see you around :)

You are right. But it has to depend on your decision. If you dont want to, then refuse such. Other players take those offers. There is no rule. Some just want to help, others try to recruit. But in any case older players just try to help the way they think ist right. Different point of views are not bad.

Some veterans dont offer anything but help out when get asked. I do supply the merchants with lowlevel equipment. But you still have to earn your dappers yourself to buy them. I still do remember my first 100 levels which i did nearly on my own. And it was one of my best times ingame. Btw: Takeing some dappers for tickets on a trek is different. Treks do not happen regular and it is good that you can attend. Regardless if you have dappers for tickets or not.

It is always, as new player or later, the players own decision how he wants to play the game. :)

Yes, I agree with Psylo.
I do the same, and try not to spoil the new players by giving them the best stuff, but let them do a little job for it. When I started I loved to 'work' for my new equipment and then when I got it, feeling happy with it.

So you can accept gifts, or you can say no. That is up to you, but just check if there are no small letters for accepting the gift...

Ive been in the same guild since February, and do not have one of my areas upto 250 yet. Im not a power lvling type person, Oh maybe a couple lvls yes, if Im close to a title or close to upgrades, but not for 50 or more lvls, it takes all the fun our of the learning curve of this game, IMO. :)

there are so many levels, in so many trees...

If someone helps you get to 100 in one of them in under a week, you have barely scratched the surface.

Then again, if that isn't your style, take your time with it and have fun :)

A little power leveling now and again is fine, but I particularly enjoy spicing it up with a bit of adventure. You'll find Spiff traveling all over the land in search of new sights, nasty competition, or a new place to hunt. Boss runs are always a nice deterrent from the daily grind, as well.

I would say dont bother power lvling as at lvl 250 in a few skills ya gonna get bored fast. Just have fun do a few trecks (make sure everyone doing a treck is using lvl 150 or lower skills to add to the fun of it) having high lvl skills killed the game for me i think.

It's a disturbing trend, I agree. But I'd rather see too much helpfulness than too little.
