Homins, I bring you tidings of the Thesos-Dyron rally,

From time immemorial the Fyros have been travellers. It is in their nature to roam the lands, not knowing where they travel to nor caring where they came from. The only care one has in the desert is where they get their next drink of water. In times past, a legend has been passed down of one such journey, perhaps the most brutal of them all. Answering the call for aid from their sister-town Dyron, guards from Thesos engaged in a gruelling race to provide guardsmen for Dyron.

The efforts of these men have gone down into history, and there is not a single homin among the mektoub herders that have not heard of their prowess. It is in their memory that the Thesos-Dyron rally was founded, to seek to honour their sense of duty, loyalty and honour.

Only the bravest and most honourable of all mektoub riders may aspire to seek their place among the proud riders of olden days. In respect of these men, all have agreed to abide by the traditions set forth to resemble their struggle:

#1 As tradition goes, within the lands of Fyros, one the route between these two cities two ‘checkpoints’ stand, these to resemble the sweet oasis that awaits the bold traveller. In order to survive the trek, each mektoub jockey must both find and honour the people representing these oases with a bow.

#2 It is a journey of epic proportions, as such many may fall. Though a mektoub may pass and a man may stumble, as long as they can find a trusty mount to carry him across the desert, not all is lost.

#3 In the old, harsh days, the Fyros did things by themselves, or not at all. To respect their brave efforts, one cannot travel ahead by any means other than on mektoub

#4 Life is a battle, a contest. Each one is born alike, though how one ends is up to themselves. As such, all mektoub jockeys shall leave the start at the same time, as signalled by the powers that be. The end however, shall be determined by homins alone: The one that passes the finish first, shall be declared winner.

#5 Fyros is a harsh land so her people must be as well. The rituals stand as they are, and each judgement by the powers that be must stand unchallenged.

Homins, heed my words!

Homins, I bring you tidings of the mektoub rally results!

This year, the Thesos-Dyron rally was graced by the presence of the mysterious Mousai, who in her wisdom felt the time right to share the history of the Thesos-Dyron rally with us all. From whence she gains this knowledge we can but guess. Witnesses have relayed our story, which we present here for contemplation:
Long ago, when the lands of Atys were more youthful, before the desert lost her sympathy, was a time when Homins were making their mark on the lands of Fyros.

Dyron was a key point to the well established trade routes with its safe and constant water supply providing a welcome rest for travel stained and thirsty caravans of merchants.

However this detail was also noticed by a passing tribe of bandits, the Renegades, as they watched, lingering in the shadows, they gathered their forces for a full scale invasion.

Many months passed as Dyron became ever more popular with the traders and merchants of Atys. Until one night the bandits made a carefully prepared strike at the heart of the town.

The Renegades force was overwhelming and before long the Dyron guards’ blood was almost spent, staining the golden sands red with gore, so that in desperation and hope the last of the men sounded the great tocsin, the notes ringing clear and true across the scorching desert.

On hearing the alarm, Pyr in return also rang out the alarm, but it was decided that the Pyr guards must defend the capital as an invasion was feared there next. Quickly, the word went out to Thesos, knowing the Thesos guards were well equipped for the battle. The brave warriors of Thesos raced on the backs of their sturdy Mektoubs to the aid of their sister town, and to make a name for themselves in history.

And so it is that the Race is imitated every 10 years to pay homage to the great Homins who risked their lives to save others.
Many brave homins took part in this test of skill and bravery, though as these things are only one could be the winner. With the speed of their proud mektoub, Chronosfera sped ahead of all competitors winning the main prize of two kitin larvae!

Right on his tale was Audrey though, spurring her trusty mektoub Audkoo, who in turn felt Themac on his path like a shadow, as his trusty mek gave all they had. For their brave efforts, Audrey received the second prize, being one kitin larva. Lastly Themac received 500000 dappers to spend at will for their mektoub handling skill.

The Fyros people would like to thank all those who joined in this race, making it a most commemorable event:

Jyudas, riding Yrkanis
Gamic, riding Mr Biggles
Toramo, riding Fribbies
Toneh, riding Shergar
Ryzorski, riding Crazy
Chestor, riding Havntdecidedyet
Supernovae, riding Silverbelly
Chronosfera, riding their unnamed mount
Starburst, riding Speedy
Themac, riding their nameless mount
Vinnie, riding their anonymous mount
Audrey, riding Audkoo
Hormonal, riding Dobbin
Marelli, riding Rya
Kindle, riding Fluffy

Homins, heed my words!
