A suggestion from a newb

Make your beginner area better.
I am going to keep playing for a little while, because i am a casual player and find the RP opportunities of this game Fascinating, but the newb area is really bad. Not only is it mindless quests, like kill 2 of these or 5 of these, but since you're isolated from the rest of civilization you have no opportunity to find out what makes this game fun for other.
The only reason i am staying for a little while (well longer if i start to have more RP fun) is because i browsed the forums and found that the newb area is generally detested by all, and that it imporves dramatically once you get tot he mainland (which i have no idea when that will be. I am a magic user 13/20, Forager 7/20).
Listen i really really want to like this game, everything i have read sounds like a lot of fun, but i am having a tough time getting myself immersed in the beginner area, anb therefore finding it hard to get to the stuff that i think sounds like fun.

A can agree with you.
But... Get your arse to mainland. There is no point in having all skills to lvl 20 or so before taking the final step. Leveling is faster in mainland too, due to more homins to team up with, and varied mobs.

Just go to the mainland.
But yes it does need improvement.

Well i'm a Newb too but many times I've heard you can go to the mainland as soon as you start the game so just go there! I'm on the newb island and getting getting used to the system and am enjoying myself. Find me a Newb area in any game which is gripping?? I don't see any problem!

Heh, I still think of the (Zorai) beginner area as one of the best parts of the game. Granted, it was back when there were more homins around, but that won't spoil my memory of it.

Ah the memories, everything was a challenge.
Doing any kind of mission, took planning and was often quite risky since you had to dodge hostile creatures.
Harvesting was easy until you exceeded the training skills, now you had to explosions and gas to worry about. And if you wanted to do some decent crafting you had to venture out into the wild, scary.
Even when in a team you had to be very carefully, no mega heal or nukes around. Just them teams modest abilities put to the full test.
Until one day you could solo a kipee and the world was yours. Weeell, you still had to be careful.

Then you go to the mainland and the game is slightly different.
To be honest, I do find it a bit odd that the training area isn't more open to all homins, a bit more easy to help the new homins and they can return to an easier area if they left too soon. But then, this kind of training areas have its downsides as well.

yeps i really like the starter island. I still remember the first time our team killed a weeny kipee, the first time i saw someone in red armor (i was so impressed), the first time i made it another village and thought it was a tricky journey hehe, ahh the innocence of youth

The revamp of starter isles has been discussed by the dev's so something is on the cards, tbh just adding a starter island chat channel would sort out so many problems by allowing ppl on the mainland to help out more.. the downside is
that the 'hungry' guilds who stand at tp's and sign up every refugee that turns up will just get thier claws in a little sooner but its not so big a downside i think.

If you think that the quests on the mainland would be better you are wrong. Are basically the same, just the level of mobs is increased or the level of crafted items.
I've played here for about 1 month in FBT and about 9 months after release and I didn't find out what makes the game liked of others.
I wanted to hit lev 250 in all areas but after you reach level 100-150 the leveling process becomes a grind. I wanted to be able to craft all the items for my race and I've done that. I wanted to reach level 250 in jewel crafting but grinding has beaten me at level 180.
If you want my 2 cents, DO NOT GRIND like I did. It kills the game pleasure for you and makes you to quit playing like I did. Have fun, don't get mad when you get DP, find a guild with nice people on mainland and stop thinking at levels and power. Will ruin everything. You can't become powerfull, you just can have fun. Make treks, be part of events, chat with others, when you are bored enough do some quests and have fun. I left the n00bland at level 50 in ALL areas (well, exept healing
) but I still think I've ruined the game with my own hand in this way. I was bored of grinding before I could even start playing. So don't do what I done. Leave the island for the mainland and have all the fun you can get.

Actually, the most hungry guild(s?) used to have alts on starter island for grabbing all newcomers and this would just ease recruitment for less hungry guilds
EDIT: Adding my hint. Don't mind npc tasks too much, they are almost as mindless in mainland as in starter island. Best way to enjoy those is to grab all kill missions and go hunting.

The newblands have been "under review" for a while; I think the poweres that be are currently coming up with ideas on how to make them better
Don't quote me on it though, and don't ask me what they're planning, because I don't know

I don't want to grind. I want to find a good group of people to RP with. From what i have seen on the forums that sholdn't be too hard because it seems like this game doesn't have as many ub3r l33t3rs like many mmo's do. So i am very excited for that.
My problems is that there really isn't anything gripping about the starter island to me, because there's no one there. I have run into a few people i like but they are few and far between.
Anyways i'll see evryone in game.
