New Noob here with a few questions

Hi all!

I'm very new here and looking for a Home for our Allge that is now homeless that AC2 is closing down. I have been playing for a couple of days, and I do have a friend that has helped me ingame with the UI and what not but she too is pretty new to the game (few weeks).

I was wondering because its a little confusing on Noob island. What is the most comon means of advancement? I mean I know that advancement is based on skill growth not your "Level", Which btw I really like the idea its very unique and flexable. But is this game quest driven, solo hunting driven, Group hunt..... ect. Coming from AC2 we had a pertty extensive Quest system with some fairly good lore attached to it. We had epic quests that would take more than one fellow (9) to complete , to solo quests like slays, or mail, and even more unique ones for a weapon or armor. Is there any of this in Ryzom?

From what I hear from my friend who is on the main land with her main she says that the community over there is mature, fantastic and very helpful. (what we are use to). Noob island is a little sparce when it comes to other people and most keep to them selves. I have no clue how the crafting system works but have done some digging for materials on the ground just because the vendors seem to buy them at a fairly good rate of exchange.

I gotta tell you I am extreamly impressed with the graphics of this game. I can almost feel the shivers down my spine when the wind is blowing through the trees and the snow is falling all over the place in a radom pattern like real snow would fall! I hear from my friend that the water is spectacular (every time I try to walk to the water on noob island I get slaughtered! lol).

Any way thanks in advance for helping me with any info you can give me to sell this game to my Alleg which I call family. :)

Frankly, not too many quests around. You can do missions and rites to get personal fame with the different factions, but not really relevant yet. Outpost mechanism is expected Oct. 26th.

Newbie Islands are very scarce, but apparently more people coming in again slowly.

As for advancement, go solo on the islands. Only way really when lvl'ing harvest and craft. For fighting and magic you might find a team mate.

Once you get to the mainland, find yourself a guild, then do guild hunts and guild treks.

Welcome, Welcome. :D

Glad to have you with us!

As to your questions all I can say is.. GET TO THE MAINLAND :p
n00b island is for most just where you get a feel for the control and basics of the game, onces you've spend a little time there it's best to move on out.
Theres no risk in leaving for the mainland. If you crated a new char and then teleported as soon as you started playing you'd still be able to get on in the game.

Once you get to the mainland you'll be able to meet the main mass of our lovely community and be able to see/do many more things.

As for quests.. well you can do missions and also theres the odd server event now and then to take part in.
My advice would be to keep an eye out for world treks so that you'll have a better chance of being able to take part.

What race did you choose?

You pretty much decide your means of advancement. Doing missions from NPCs gets you three things: experience points (and once you have enough of those, you level up) from killing what the NPC told you to kill, or crafting what the NPC told you to craft, or digging what the NPC told you to dig...etc., dappers (not always, but usually from the homin NPCs. Kami NPCs don't seem to give dappers, dunno about Karavan), and fame. You get fame with the tribe, race, or faction (Kami/Karavan) that you did the mission for. Fame has a few meanings, two of which I can think of right now...for example, if you max your Matis fame, Matis merchants give you a better price for things you sell to them. And faction fame decides your alignment in Faction PvP (remember that even if your character is of a race that is automatically aligned with the Karavan, for example, you can do missions for the Kami or the Fyros and Zorai or any tribe with a Kami Ambassador and thereby change your character's alignment).

You can solo. Best to start with yubos but if they're too cute to kill, or you want to join the Yubo Liberation Front someday, you can increase your HP (Constitution) at the Harvester Trainer, or the Crafter Trainer, or even the Magician Trainer if you level magic via healing in team. Then you can skip yubos entirely and kill capryni, bodoc, and sooner or later gingo. ^_^

You can also hunt in a group and have someone heal you (if you are doing melee or offensive magic), and maybe have an afflictionist use Stun or something of that sort.

Oh and as for working harvest/forage, get Resource Preservation and Ground Stability ASAP. Then find someone to "careplan" for. Just ask in Region if any foragers want a careplanner. Then, once you're in team with them, target the source they dig and use your careplan action (which is made by clicking on an empty spot in your shortcut bar, selecting Care plan as the ROOT, then adding the options Resource Preservation and Ground Stability (or whatever they're called in the menu...in any case there will only be two options so there's no room for error), then adding the first (least) credit, then clicking Learn the Action). This will continually increase the Source Life and Extraction Risk bars (on the source's stats), helping to prevent the source from dying prematurely or exploding/releasing a toxic cloud. You can also careplan your own sources (but keep in mind that while using the careplan, you aren't gaining quality or amount in mats). Careplanning a higher-level forager's sources gets you max xp consistently and levels you up fast. ^_^

...Hope I didn't confuse you. o.o

Some good questions there and glad you asked. I'm new too and have just started out on the Starting island. I'm glad to hear the community is mature .... at last I found one :) I'll be heading off to the mainland as soon as I've got a feel for the game. On choosing my initial character I chose crafting and gathering skill and dropped magic. Hopefully this won't have been a negative move but I've always been more than an explorer that a warrior anyway.

Re. those starting skills, it has been suggested taking one each in Harvest, Craft and Magic, no matter what you want to do. That way you have access to all skill lines from the start. Even if it means that your first fight is kicking a yubo to death.

I personally can only recommend doing a lot of crafting as you can buy many stat increases with Craft SkillPoints of which you can get a lot with for example Jewellery, while saving your Fight, Magic and Harvest sp for more important stuff.

Magic is very important as everyone should be able to heal, and resurrect deads. You don't have to redo your character though as Magic Start can be learned from any trainer for 50sp...

Thanks to you both for the advice. I did make a new character but I wanted two anyway to switch between and my new Matis character looks a lot nicer than my ugly old Fyros :)
