Hey everyone!

I just started playing Ryzom again after taking a long break. I know how most things work in Ryzom, but the one thing I still can't get the hang of it is harvesting. So I have a few specific questions to ask. Here it goes...


1. What is the main difference between 'gentle' and 'harmful' extraction? Which is better for solo digging? I've been doing 'harmful' extraction mostly and it's not that bad. I use self heal to avoid getting killed.

2. Would switching to 'gentle' extraction be safer, and still able to get the same quality/amount of mats I do using harmful?

3. I've been able to handle the toxic clouds just fine, but the my resource node always dies very quickly and the area is exhausted. What is the best way to handle this? I know of the care plan to raise its life, but using it means I waste extraction time, thus ending with lower quality mats.


Thanks in advance for any help with this. By the way, does anyone know of a site with a good 'general' guide to prospecting/harvesting? I've seen a few post giving really good advice for specialized harvesting, but nothing that deals with the very basics.

For solo i recomend gentle extraction. The difference is that gentle needs less care. It depends on your level and the quality you dig. A q200 exe source kills you in an eyeblink

You do get the same quality but maybe less quantity. On the other hand hramful needs more care.

I recommend using gentle and careplans. imho this is the most effective way to dig solo. At least it is for me. Its different when you dig in team with a careplanner.

Hmm, give it a try Harvesting is not hard to learn and understand.

Edit: Doesnt mean that i dont want to help. I do not know a good guide. Best is to learn ingame with another digger. If you post your level someone might also tell you the best bricks to use at your level.

Harmful does more damage to KT (kami tolerance) and the harvest nodes, but it use less focus in the stanza. Gentle does less damage, and you get more stable harvest sources.
There is no "better", only what works for you.

It would be safer, but the amount would likely change a bit unless you can tweak the stanzas enough (hint, 2+ stage extraction), quality shouldn't change provided you don't have a really slow extract with no time bonus.

Toxic gasses and explosions are bad. First of you harm your equipment (armour and jewels), you harm the KT and the harvest nodes as well (as you have noticed), and you get less experience for each leak and explosion. You have to choose between careplanning or the rest. If you don't care that much about exp you can get a careplanner to team with you, that way you will extract what you do now, with no leaks or explosions (if the CP can keep up of course ).

As a harvester you can start of with one of the sites provideing locations or you can ask the harvesters ingame. But in the long run you will do yourself a favor by figuring out where and how to find mats, then you will know when and where to find better than choice mats (and even mission mats). You might even go places where the sites don't show mats, as some of them are not completely reliable or even complete.

When a deposit monitored by the Kamis hasn't been harvested yet, the Kami tolerance is at 10,000; that represents the number of raw materials which can be harvested from sources before having to suffer the Kami's wrath. That number is regenerated at a rate of 860 points per hour, so to be able to forage a source indefinitely, no more 860 raw materials should be extracted from the entire deposit area per hour.

With harmful, you just pull more materials from source quicker, so KT will drop quicker.

Yeah, I'm under the impression gentle/harmful isn't directly related to KT, except through mat output. And also from that it seems depletions, clouds, and explosion don't affect KT either.


And to Elwen, I've always found a combination of harmful/gentle stanzas was a good balance of output and taking it easy on the source so you don't need to care too much. But you will need to care, life preservation and source stability are a must. Make sure you have them both in the same action. Experiment with your harvest action, try all kinds of combinations. Someone might be able to tell you the most efficient but you learn a lot more figuring it out for yourself. But for a starter hint, I think gentle Q stanzas are the only way to got. Harmful Q means more needing CP without any benefity except less focus usage. You should be able to do better.

I'm not sure what level you are, but it's probably easiest to harvest some "known" spots shown to you by other diggers or websites for some leveling. Locating new spots on your own gets easier after you have some levels under your belt and tracking skills to put to use.

I use Gentle extraction, Harmfull rate and Gentle speed.
Or sometimes I switch to Harmfull speed and Gentle rate...just do some tests.

Anyway, the more harmfull components you use, the faster the HP bar and "explosion" bar will go down.

I found that with Gentle extraction 40, harmfull rate 2, harmfull speed 2 I can extract up to 3 materials, but I've to use about 4-5 times the careplanes (level 2), and it's a bit tricky because if you hit "careplan" with bad timming, the source often boom

Using gentle extr 40, gentle rate1, harmfull speed2, I still can get 3 materials but I only need to use careplanes once (if ever) and I can chat meanwhile, without having to constantly keep eyes on the "boom and life bars".

So, for me, gentle is better when you solo.

The bricks I use are, in order from the top, gentle, harsh, gentle (speed, rate, quality?) along with terrain specialization. Two sources and a little time bonus don't hurt either. Use careplan! Muy importante. Somebody once said if your focus runs out about the same time as the source/time then you've got it about right - sometimes its more important to get the next brick than to upgrade your focus level.

Starting out I picked up the pops around the stables and then prospected the same place - that way the xp comes fast at that low of a level and you can get the bricks you need.
