[EVENT] The Great Race: Part I
Posted: Sun Aug 21, 2005 3:19 am
It has recently come to my attention that certain folk believe they can outrun other folk because the have longer legs or higher endurance. Well, the time has come to call your bluff! I hereby challenge all of hominity to partake in a series of races in every land.
The first race will be held in the Grove of Confusion, starting at the Karavan teleporter, September 3rd, at 2PM PST / 10PM GMT. Now, this isn't exactly a walk in the park. The maze involved is one of the most challenging regions in any racial mainland. This race is neither for the weak of constitution nor for the faint of heart. If you plan to win, not to mention to simply survive, you had better come outfitted in your best gear, but don't forget to bring your quick wits and a good friend, because this is a 2-person team event.

Prizes are as follows:
1. 8 Million Dappers + 4 Pieces of Supreme Kitin Larvae q250
2. 4 Million Dappers + 2 Magic Amplifiers q250
3. 2 Million Dappers + 2 Magic Amplifiers q150
The last two placed teams will receive q10 staffs for consolation prizes!
NOTE: Magic amplifiers will be awarded after the event. Qualities listed are the maximums to be awarded, but the winners may choose a lower value, if needed. The items will be the standard Supreme Zun style with 97/97 to most magic types.
Prizes provided through the combined donations of OmegaV and Infinity, and other various members of the wonderfully infamous Honda Accord
Rules are as follows:
1. Each team will be assigned a number. One member of each team must shout this team number as they pass each checkpoint. If the team fails to be accounted for at any checkpoint, then the team will be disqualified.
2. The use of teleporters by racers is prohibited (for obvious reasons).
3. The use of mounts by racers is prohibited (yet again, for obvious reasons).
4. Teams are allowed to heal other teams. There are no rules against separate teams assisting each other, but only 2-person teams are allowed to participate.
5. The members of each 2-person team will be given identical random items. If either team member fails to produce this item at the end of the race, then the team will not be eligible for prizes.
6. If a team or one of its members dies near a checkpoint, healing requests can be granted by race officials. However, if a race official resurrects a participant, that participant's team will be removed from the competition.
NOTE: While the race officials will be in the upper echelon of the Ryzom community, they are still just people. If you have a ton of aggressive monsters on your tail, please try not to run them into said officials, otherwise the event will be a flop and we all go to our homelands with a sad look on our faces.
I believe that this will be a great opportunity to break the monotony of the daily grind. Please do not hesitate to bring your toughest Ryzom buddy and join in the fun. If you can't make it to this event, don't worry. We intend to host a new race on the first Saturday of each month in each of the racial lands. The grand finale will be a race from the Bounty Beaches entrance to Umbra, to the Scorched Corridor portal at Windy Gate, and then back to the Trench of Trials portal to Grove of Umbra. The kicker is that the likelihood of attack from other players increases as teams enter this portion of the Prime Root. While fights are not exactly encouraged, they are definitely possible, so racers will have to watch each others' backs. The prizes are generous, but the best part will be the extreme bragging rights granted to the winning team. Who knows, perhaps we can even get the Aripostle staff involved and make this something official! Anybody else thinking a title would be awesome for the winning team?
