Ryzom vs other MMORPGs

I'm sure this has been asked often by new players, but...
I wondered if any long-time players could tell me what the experience of the game is from a long-term perspective, compared to say WoW or EQII, L2, etc. I've tried them all and never found one that "felt like home", or at least worth committing to for a long time. Right now, I'm just playing with different characters/types/races...what drew me to the game was that there had been some consideration of the ecology of the world, and that mobs appear to have at least a few behaviors other than "stand around and wait to be killed." Anyway, if you have any (comparitive) insights that would be great. Please reply via the board or private email.

Ryzom vs. other MMO"RPG"s:
There's actually RPG in it, not just MMOG. Seems most MMOGs don't bother to add any kind of history/lore, and there's no actual roleplaying in them...I mean look at the sites of some of the newer MMOGs, blatantly no background/history or anything at all...while the Ryzom site is full of it. They really put a lot of effort into making Ryzom the fascinating science-fantasy story it is. And also, it isn't simply (yet another) medieval EQ-clone - IMO that alone makes it better than about 80% of MMORPGs.

No bl**dy, fre*kin' elves, dwarves, hobbits, halflings, gnomes etc or any other Tolkienesque 'industry standard' racial distribution.
Just homins.

I have to say it does sound very interesting and different when comparing to the industry standard when it comes to MMORPG's which is a good thing. I've played many many MMORPG's, MMO's, MMOG's or whatever you want to call them and, unfortunately, they do seem to be populated by a lot of what I would call Multiplayer gamers (meaning before the big MMORPG's revolution the net seemed to be mainly populated by the Counterstrike, halflife online sort of gamer. Gamers that are just interested in being number one and competing). I've always preferred co-operative play. I did enjoy EQ on the RPG server (even tho it had little RPG) but then we had the revolution where just about every company in existance was making their own MMORPG and soon one was the same as another and soon it got very tedious. I like the sound of a game that has a very good community and is story driven!

Well, sitting in a cafe here in The Hague I spoke with a grafical artist for some nice new standard orc/troll/dwarf/human/elf MMO, but unsure how they plan the RPG thing apart from the o'so common catchphrase:
- Huge world
- Player influence blabla
- Great GFX
- "with thousants of players all over the world"
- more common blabla
For some reason SoR is the only one with:
- Hey, we screwed up, sorry for that.
- This is why we screwed up
- Thanks for you patience, here is a free month of play
- Proper gfx
