Since I'm B@W and can't test this thoroughly, I wanted to put it up here and see if anyone else can figure it out or explain it

Yesterday under some preliminary findings I think I've come to the conlcusion that using a high level heal or elemental enchant in a low level fight has no effect whatsoever on the gained XP. However, if you replace that enchant with an affliction enchant, offensive or defensive, it will now nerf the XP.

I haven't really tested it, except for a brief use of a Stun enchant and a guildie telling me it did the same with Root when he was ranged hunting.

Can anyone report the same findings?

Affliction item enchants count for XP but heal or elemental doesn't?

If this is true, it would be a bug, right? I see no reason there should be a difference.

me and my hunting buddies use enchant heal all the time when we can't find a low lvl healers among us to fight low lvl stuff.

It certainly makes the hunt much more intereesting

I don't think it's a bug. It usually takes a lot of credits for the spells to be effective, and if you don't have good crystals, and doesn't have a high enough sap crystal making skill, you're s.o.l. and have to go b.e.g. for some.

heh, if enchant afflict does nerf xp, it's defn a bug to me. I'll test it out next chance I get.

Yeah, that was how I thought all enchants worked, zero effect on XP. I've used heals regularly and was using some elemental blast to speed up CC soling as well.

But then last night I was in a team where my stun would've been helpful, so I enchanted that and started getting "this action is too easy" and "You don't gain experience in master Defensive Affliction"

Do allfiction enchants link? If they do, then I'd say that the "nerf" is to offbalance the fact that you could theoretically stun a mob for the entire duration of a fight, whereas with a heal or ele enchant its just going to be one or two shots before you have to reload.

If they don't link, then I'd say it was a bug, but maybe Nevrax have a different idea

Ok, I can see manybe the link is what's causing it.

Has anyone tried an elemental DoT enchant? If that nerfs too, than we've isolated the issue

DOTs nerf exp as well I never thought of it but seems it must be anything that links are treated differently.

Blah, Sinful beat me to it. Anyway, I can confirm it. Punching a little arma and then killing it with an instant elemental enchantment gives me close combat experience, punching it and then killing it with a DoT enchantment nerfs it.

what if you link it with madness and let it kill itself?

Think it's "working as intended" or links slip through a crack in XP code and it should be fixed?

I don't think it's intentional. Sure you could theoretically stun it for the whole fight, but one high-level ele enchant could kill the mob instantly, so it's not really unbalanced. Seems to me the XP code only considers the establishing of the link as the enchantment, the maintaining of the link afterwards is considered as normal spell casting.
