Blue screen problem.

While I've playing Ryzom I keep getting a blue screen. Not like the MS 'Blue screen of death' - With code etc.. on it. It's just blank blue.
This is fairly random.. can happen from 2 mins or 2 hours in to the game.
I've not had the problem in any other games so far, thought I don't play many games aslong as Ryzom.
I've not added any new software or hardware recently so it's pretty weird.. Sounds like a RAM problem to me but.. can't find anything wrong with it, done a few tests and such.
I've tried new and old drivers for video card etc.. nothing seems to work. I've tried all sorts of configs for Ryzom.. Bios is setup correctly.. running out of ideas here.

System specs:

Abit NF7-S MOBO
AMD Athlon 3200+ CPU (NOT 64bit)
Twin 512MB 3200 400MHz Corsair RAM sticks. < Setup correctly and working as a duel pair.
ATI Radeon 9800 128MB 8X Graphics card.
Sounds is onboard, Nvidea Nforce.

Would be greatful for any help, this ones got me stumped :)

Completely plain blue, or with some "mess" on it?

I had it with mess, and it was either my ram or my gfx card after it progressed to full on BSODs ;)

Yeah, I dumped half my RAM and got a free gfx card ;)

But then, my entire pc was broke from something else so I had to do that anyway ;)

Try this:

Go into your command prompt and run sfc.exe like so: START -> RUN -> sfc.exe. If you get an error message, copy and paste that here. Then we can go from there and see about fixing your problem. If you don't get an error message, then go to Control Panel --> Adminstrative Tools -> Event Viewer --> System --> Event 1001. Copy and paste here on the thread.

If that doesn't allude to the problem, then the only other things I could think of that it might be is a system resources issue. If that is the case, then you need to make sure you don't have a virus or any spyware running in the background or it could be a problem with your RAM.

Event 1001? - Can't find this..

However did find this in the App list:

"Faulting application client_ryzom_rd.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module nel_drv_direct3d_win_rd.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x000f72d4."

I've got the usual firewall/antivirus/spyware tools running. - Nothing found. :(

Based on that info and on some research I did here and around the web, it seems that your Ryzom client data may be corrupted.

What you need to do is open your Ryzom client but don't log in, click on CHECK DATA and see if it uncovers any problems with any of the data. Whether it does or not, I would run Ryzom Recover. Once Ryzom Recover is finished try playing the game with the same settings and everything you had before and see if you get the same problem. If you do, then I would suggest reinstalling Ryzom.

I hope this fixes your problem. :) Keep us posted of course and let us know how it goes.

Blue blank screen means your system is most likely overheating and has shut down. Check your cooler to make sure it is contacting the CPU properly and get some canned air to dust out the system. Make sure the case has ventilation on all sides and that all cooling ports are clear. Saga of Ryzom is a very heavy duty application that makes both CPU and GPU run at 100% so your cooling has to be up to the task.

And to do Ryzom Recover properly please see the FAQ on the subject

Thx for the responces.

-Cooling

I've had the case side-panels off for sometime now and had the fans on full. The CPU fan I'm sure is contacting the CPU properly. Also the build-in temp monitors on the MOBO show things as normal even while the game is running aswel as good old finger poking on the heat sinks. Doesn't seem to fix it.

-What I've done today

Today I've gone for a good old 'Format C:' and installed Windows XP Pro again.
After getting everything installed I gave Ryzom a go, it ran smoothly (as things do after a format) but after a few mins it crashed bringing up the error box but not BSOD/stalling. I tried the Ryzom recover as described in the FAQ's but it crashed a couple of times after that still.. Now I'm in the middle of doing a full reinstall/Patch of Ryzom in the hope it'll stop the crashes. After that it's back to seeing if I get any BSOD/stallage still..

I'll keep you updated.

thx again.
