Is there any strategic pvp, faction vs faction, territories, etc?

I'm not a PvPer so I'll keep it short:

Apparently sometimes it happens like that
faction vs faction,
Very little
territories, etc?
No
Put simply, this isn't a PvP game, but its starting to look like its going that way. There are plenty of "pro-PvP" players & guilds, but its basically just done over the best material sites, or if someone got mad and declared war. Outside of duels, PvP pretty much only happens in the Prime Roots anyway, and those are "high level" zones.

So you just do the treadmill all day long, with no long term purpose?

Nope, it's about the unfolding story; the "Saga" of Ryzom. At the moment, we appear to have little control over the way the story infolds, but the intention is to increase that significantly.

why end a game?

The plans they have for SoR, if/when they're implemented, will give more context and purpose to faction and guild PvP.
For the time being, the most significant conflict that's being fought is essentially a struggle rooted in philosophical differences. That violent (literally) difference of opinion is over what constitutes acceptable PvP, in Atys as it exists today.
At least, that's my take on things.

Hay nice summary of the game. Although you can break that up with weddings and running about all over the place and chatting. There is no meaningfull anything yet. It is in development though.
I still like the game cos it looks nice and I know peeps to chat to. The things you describe are in DAoC and Dark & Light however if you want them.

Isn't the endless back and forth of interminable PvP just another grind though?

No it aint just another grind, unless you are talking WoW of course.
Anyway, you really must define what you mean by 'PvP' as you bandy the term about like it is a precise handle on something. (That's a dig at you of course, joke
Grinding is defined by repetition and levelling. PvP is constantly different because of the people, strategty, alliances, styles and the level-philia is replaced by some kind of meaningfull game-world altering result that offers a sense of accomplishment and a means to make a difference.
To sum it up in words you may dislike; the grindy content evolves into an end-game which usually introduces PvP.
Oh man, I said "constantly different" above, don't you just hate that!

Nope, it's about living in the world. The gameplay is not goal specfic force fed whatever that you might be used to. The point is not to level everything asap and get to an end game state because really there isnt one. It's more about your interaction with people and the world. For those that get it it's great and very rewarding, for those that don't it seems to be a bit frustrating lol -)
