Gladiator feedback Poll - NPC special armours

After several homins asking me to ban Aen armour for the Gladiator leagues recently, I am running this poll.

Let me explain some of the reasons people wish it banned from the leagues:

The old Aen armour had a +7 parry modifier per item part; this has now been changed to +4. However, the players who got +7 Aen armour still have and can use it. Many people have complained that even the best armour that is homin made cannot beat this armour and those with it have an unfair advantage that cannot ever be matched.

I am unable to distinguish easily in events between +7 and +4 so if I ban them I will have to do it for all, and not some. The result of this will mean that special armours will be disallowed for the gladiator leagues if voted as such. As it is an event run for you all, so I wanted to let you all decide rather than me. This poll shall run for 2 weeks and I shall make a decision judging by the results of the poll.

Please feel free to explain your opinions below.

Veterans having an advantage over newer players simply because they have been around longer and had an opportunity which is no longer available?....

I dont think so... *ticks the no box*

Well, I'm a bit biased but... shouldn't event (invasion) weapons be banned as well? I'm thinking about axes, daggers and amps (oh well, not amps, they were really crappy)

Aaagh. +4 still makes Aen the best armor anywhere, waaaay better than any player can craft.

Personally, I don't think armor should exist that is better overall, or in any single attribute, than players can make. A player-driven craft economy and lack of loot were two of the biggest reasons I joined this game.

In the long run, however, I don't think Aen or invasion stuff should be banned. I think high-level craft stanzas should be added that will allow higher results in such areas as speed and damage (as well as parry mod for armor). That way a level 250 crafter (who has worked harder than just about anyone) will actually have some use for it. Also, since equipment will be strong, melee classes will be more balanced against magic.

In the tournament, as it stands now, it's an either-or proposition. If someone has the Aen stuff, they will have a powerful edge that can't be compensated for. (Since hits only do 1/2 damage, the protection and protect vs. values are irrelevant, and are the only things that player armor could possibly have better than Aen). Invasion weapons aren't quite so overpowered, generally speaking. But some of them (the burning axe in particular) are unbalancing enough that they should be banned as well, in my opinion.

I've never participated in any of these or even watched them, so I didn't vote, but I'm curious...

Does the use of such armor guarantee a win? Or is it possible for an opponent with decent player-crafted armor to use their superiour understanding of the game, keyboard skills and good teamwork to beat a team that's all dressed up in the NPC armor?

If the armor or other equipment is so good that even a relatively unskilled (real life skill, not levels) player can be assured victory when they would never win without it, the answer seems pretty clear - the NPC items present a balance issue that needs to be addressed not only in staged competitions, but in the rest of the game as well.

Perhaps another answer to this might be for the devs to increase the wear rate on such items when used in PvP, which would encourage people to think twice about using them in such things as tournaments.

Well, well, well... both the invasion stuff and the boss armor are head and shoulders above the player made stuff but are not even close to being the same in availability.

To even classify them in the same terms is wrong, you could not abuse anything IG to get the invasion stuff and it required a very long grind in several different ways... There is not much of it around these many months later. Aen and the other bosses (Except maybe the Tryker boss) were so easy to exploit due to bad game mechanics that everyone was wearing a set.

I would gladly put away the daggers I spent endless hours crafting/digging/killing/supplying an NPC army in the middle of a Kitin invasion for to make things even... but to classify them together is more jealousy than anything else... If you were on the server back in them days and do not have an invasion weapon it is because you CHOSE not to take part and earn one or used it up grinding levels... It's not the same as having an armor set obtained from exploiting the NPC bosses.

Boss armor shouldn't be allowed... Anissa didn't get a weapon (But apparently has an Amp) from the invasions so lets ban them too...

[EDIT] For the record Calebrien... What science is achieved by having an open vote ? It's apparent many that are not even members of the ladder are voting and are in no way effected... It is not wise to have those taking part in events effected by others that are not IMHO [/edit]

Hey DT :)

A few players have tried to get into the ladder for a while, like Booster, Kosto and myself, but it is not always easy or possible. I tried to duel a couple of players but they had RL urgent things, etc.

Finally, although not my particular case, it may be that some players are willing to take part in the event, but specifically not participating because of what they consider to be an unfair advantage ?.

Are you speaking for everyone now ? I personally sat there and saw Kosto turn down a fight (and lose points, he IS on the ladder). Your making alot of noise and riding the fence Anissa... it is so easy to make a challenge and the person you challenge has three days to answer or they lose points. If they are IG, the "RL urgent" thing don't get it for me...

Easiest way is to send a /tell to the player and let them know your going to challenge them and where is a good place to meet them. Then submit your ticket when your both together... whole thing takes maybe 10 minutes depending on CSR workload. I have NEVER turned down a fight so I know you didn't challenge me...

If you are gonna whine about unfair when your not involved you lose validity... I never use Aen armor when I fight melee and have taken down many wearing it...

Hey, I'm not aiming you at all :) not, I started today, and got my first duel. I wasn't taking about you, I was talking about another player, who had a bit of trouble. What make you think I was referring to you? Making a lot of noise? no, I just happened to talk to the players that are at the origin of the request, that's all.

Whine about unfair? I just stated an opinion, that's all. And I was thinking about taking part in the gladiator out of boredom, and yes, I got involved. Am I more valid now? and I can win or lose, it's just a number in a ladder.

Finally, I know you don't wear Aen, I know the armor you wear, or at least I think I do.

You know me DT, no need to be that aggressive.
