Well, I am not sure if MxO is on of the "bigger games". They got bought out by Sony and laid off most of their staff recently.

Bigger as in it is run by one of the big companies (Sony) and has had more marketing and money spent on it. Bigger exposure, bigger marketing, bigger budget.

(and I did say 'so called')

I find it interesting that they claim it's to help the community get together more easily. Sounds like spin to me.

I read 2 things from that:

1 - the community isn't big enough to support 9 servers
2 - they can't afford to run them all (because of 1?)

I'd say Yes to 1, and possibly to 2. SOE will have a budget, it will be fairly large, but the Sony group in general isn't doing that well at the moment. That's more down to the electronics business, but will still affect SCE and SOE. I think it's related more to no. 1.

And yes, I think you're right with the spin - typical big-company reaction to a bad situation, always trying to make it seem lighter. I imagine the MxO community feels the same way too...

Merges are just part of MxO acquisition plan by Sony, it is not a failure on part of Sony. They bought whole game from other company and are now doing heavy restructuring that is needed to make game profitable in future. Something that original company did not dare to do early enough. In case of Ryzom, it is original company who started restructuting and original vision about game won't be forgotten.

I had a nightmare, that Sony also gobbled Nevrax and SoR!

For what it's worth, I think EVE-Online and SoR are the top mmorpgs right now. They should get together and have CCP designed space flight and Nevrax do on planets traveling.

Hahahahahahahahah that's funny. If they mixed the best of both Eve and Ryzom it'd be.. well, wierd, because the 2 games are, right now, quite different. But it would be done quite well, I think.

(and yes, I agree Eve Online and Ryzom are the 2 best MMO's currently out.)
