I recently found a article by Jessica
http://www.skotos.net/articles/BTH_12.shtml
considering this article I wonder why Ryzom is developing into an PvP world.
Could we get some infos on the, Jessica?

Great find!
And very well written article!
I wish she would take her own advice....
She debunks the very "Faction" system that they're planning to implement!
Well, I guess it's slightly different... I think... I don't know, hehe

Lol, she has many very valid points in all that but I don't think it means she's against PvP. I like to think that Ryzom isn't developing into a PvP world but instead developing into a world where PvP is possible.

Irrelevent, the points are still correct and rather insightful.
What's changed? Or is someone not receptive to the ideas?

It's good to remember that Jessica came from UO, a game that Raph Kosters idea of unlimited PvP almost killed, resulting a huge loss of playerbase. But that just makes her points more valid, as been there, seen that.

A vital part of outposts is organized PVP, thus rationally she'd support it, with no qualms, as far as is necessary for the outposts to work.

Ay now.. I'm not that keen on PvP myself so thats nothing to do with it.
Just saying stuff has changed/developed over the years but yes alot of her points still apply.

Money makes the world go round.
Lets asume you sell 2 million copies of a new game at 49.49 Euro. I think this is realistic and would bring an income of 99 millions Euro. If the game is not completely bull**** you might keep 500.000 players for 6 month at a fee of 12 Euro. This is another income of 36 million Euro. Then you might be able to keep 200.000 players for 6 month more. This is an income of 14.4 million Euros. All in all you made 1.5 milliard (billion in US) Euros.
Now, would you care about mechanics, gameplay, PvP or content ?
After this 12 months you have finished your next game and it starts all over again...
Note: While those numbers might be to high for Nevrax, they sure are to low for Blizzard, Sony and others. They also might show that a game might be a success if only enough copies are sold by advertising and hyping. Even if noone is playing the game after 1 month anymore.
