Im unable to play for more than 5ish mins then my computer totally locks up, and I gotta do a hardreboot. Ive tried lowering my graphics from high to low but nothing seems to help, I down clocked it aswell but that didnt do any good either. Does anyone know a solution to this? Highly appreciated. I just started playing this game and Im really liking it so far, even though Ive only managed to play like 30ish mins casue of all the lock ups

That's another one - same question here: Did you check your computers' temperature?
Does anything strange appear in your client.log when the system freezes?

Hmm no I havent checked the comp temp, the card seemed to be very hot when I touched it though, I think that might be the reason. Maybe if I down clocked it further it would help some? I havent checked client.log, is that in the game dir? It freezes my entire comp so Im unable to go to windows again without rebooting.

I had some problems yesterday regarding heat, my gfx card went up over 100° and then of course it shutdown to prevent damage.
Is Ryzom the only game that gives you these total lockups or can you reproduce it with another game / 3d demo or alike ?

Definitely worth checking your temperatures - I've been having recent problems too (running any games), and I think it's down to the temp of my R9800. I had to install a sound card in PCI slot 1 to get it working, and there was nowhere near enough air around the AGP card. When I removed the sound card (after a crash), it was almost at melting point

(and that was from sitting *next* to the 9800...)
Even if you don't have huge extra cooling, air flow is very important.

Thanks for the responese guys! Yeah Ive had my suspicous on the temperature being too high on it. I felt on it last night after I had my 8th crash or something and it was reaaally hot. So Im eating breakfast now, getting ready to get me a big juicy superman fan! Ive never had problems like this before. I play quake 3 from time to time and thats really not a demanding game and after my comp crashed after playing ryzom for 10ish mins I started quake 3 and that too crashed after like 5ish mins, so you guys are probably right about the heat, but we will see! Thanks again, Ill let you know if I get it fixed

Good luck with that
The most important thing to remember, IMO, is make sure you have some air between the 9800 and whichever card is closest (if there is a card close by). Even if this air isn't cooled, it will make a big difference to the card.
You may want to seek advice on inlet/exhaust fans. Exhaust fans are only useful if they can be fitted high in the case, although to help an AGP card you generally need the cooling
below the card itself (the components are mounted so they point downwards in a tower case), rather than above it (by above it I mean where the CPU is).

Ok Im back! And Im still having the problem

, I bought really big and good fan (zalman something) and thought itd help but its not. Tried lowering graphics to low on all, that didnt help. Turned sound off and tried 8 channel thingy, didnt help either. It seems to me that I crash whenever the comp is loading something. Like when I enter an area with some people. But sometimes it just random crashes, like just now I didnt even get past the loading screen it just stopped at 100% and the sounded was looping over and over. Is this a known issue? Really like the game and Ive only played for maybe 1-2 hours total and I mustve rebooted at least 30-40 times during that period lol. Any other ideas? Im desperate

The card is cool now as far as I know
Edit: Tried switching the RAM slots but Im still crashing

How much RAM do you have? Ryzom likes a lot (about 1024 MB), you might have problems if you have less than 512 MB. Also you could try turning off EAX.

I have 512 RAM, PC3200 I think it was. Hmmm I think I have tried that but Ill give it a shot just to be sure, thanks!
Edit: Just checked, EAX has always been turned off, I also tried turning of the sound completly but that didnt seem to do anything
