Hello, just wondering about some specifications on Items. What does the quality of an item play in the game. Abviously an item with 100 quality is better then the same item with say 50 quality...but why. Does it play any importance in say the dame or durrabillity of the weapon/armour?

Just to make sure we're on the same page... are you talking about the level - as in anybody can wear lvl 250 light armor but medium and heavy armor can only be worn if your constitution is high enough; as in you can wear lvl 150 heavy armor if your con is 130.
If you mean the bars in the crafting box, as an example, the higher the number is in the durability area, the more hit points the item can take before wearing out.
(i'm finally decreasing my Nytquil doses so hopefully i'm a little more rational)

The statistics for Quality determine whether you are able to use the item or not. For a Melee Weapon, your character's Strength will determine how high a quality of weapon you can use. For Armour, your Constitution determines how high a quality of armour you can use. For Ranged Weapons, your Balance and so on through all items on Atys with a few notable exceptions. Light Armour and Jewelry of any quality can be worn by a any character, regardless of their stats.
So the mechanism that quality plays in the game is that the higher a statistic you have (except in the two cases mentioned above) the higher quality of item (and therefore, generally, the more powerful and item) you can use.

Just in case you haven't yet seen this, Aehuji, try right-clicking on an item in your bag, in your hand or for sale at a merchant, and opening the Info window for it. All the statistics you see there can be dependent upon the item quality. That's one reason why you would want the highest quality item that you can use / wear. The other reason that comes to mind is that you probably want to make the most of the skills you have, and you won't get any benefit from your q50 magic amplifier, for example, when casting a level 100 spell.

just to correct you ... you need 140 constatution to equip 150 armour and its the same with any weapon

you need 170 strenght to equip a 180 ql sword

sorry for being annoying just correcting you so the person making this post knows correctly

whilst it is true that a higher quality item is generally better than a lower quality one it all depends on what mats you have used to make the item.
for example i had a q 90 pike made with supreme mats that did far more dmg and had a higher rate than than a q110 pike made with choice mats.
i think that the quality of an item dictates what the maximum stats of an item can be (when crafting) eg max dmg max slash protection etc. however, if you use bad mats then you cannot atain these stats.
with amps this is slightly different. the quality of your amps determins what lvl of spell you can cast with them. ie. if you have an action and on it the spell with the highest cost is say140 (just the cost of the spell not any other stanzas) then you need a q140 amp to cast this spell. if not then you will get a msg that says 'the quality of your amps is not high enough to cast this spell effectivly' (or words to that effect)

The simple answer is that an items stats tend to increase linearly with quality.

Some stats increase, like "max vs" values on armor and damage on weapons.
Others stay the same, like protection factor on armor and speed on weapons.
