Hi... Whats the RP like around here?

Hi all, I hope i'm asking in the right place kinda trying to work everything out here.
Ryzom has got my attention, I'm kinda getting sick of WoW. I'm getting next to no RP there and it can feel a little like everyone is 15 years old, it's not that I mind playing in a game with people younger than me it's just WoW has a way of getting you down if you're not a fan of l33t speak. I've made a lot of friends on WoW but I feel that the game just isnt giving me what I want.
1st there is very little RP. What RP there is I love i've made some great RP friends but even on a RP server you just can't get away from people jumping on the spot yelling "lolz lolz lolz". I dunno why I'm just getting a feel that RP in Ryzom is better.
2nd the very alien feel to Ryzom has grabbed my attention, I'm a big fan of worlds that feel like our own but some how... just feel... of center... if you know what I mean.
3rd it seems like a game where you all know each other here and in game.
Dunno if I'm right on any of this but with a 14 day trial i'll find out.

Two things, firstly the average age in Ryzom is much higher than WoW. Secondly, RP in Ryzom happens all the time in my experience. Many people will RP with you if you start something. Some of the homin i play with almost always roleplay which makes for interesting times (like trying to explain that they won't be around because of RL issues). Others will RP but don't care either way. Then there are some who don't like RP for a variety of issues (many seem to think Ryom is like a 3D version of Diablo 2 - similar to WoW i assume). Each to their own.
So try making conversation in character and mainly people will play right along.

I've never heard anyone say Ryzom is not a prety place to be.

Many do. I know many through chatting on the forums and only see them in game once in a while. Players are generally pretty darn friendly in this game so I suppose that makes it seem like we all know each other already.
PS don't be put off by the low number of people in the newbie lands. Most people are on the mainland.

Welcome my friend.
If find the RP here to be very nice indeed. It is a bit hard to explain, you have to live it =).
I am a big fan of RP myself, so if you want to RP just come and see me my friend.
Take care !

From what I have experienced of the RP side of Ryzom is that the players tend to talk naturally about their day to day needs, wants and desires. The majorities of players tend to live the lives of the characters and are almost always IC. The Ryzom world tends to mirror a real world better that most other games and thus rather than feeling like you are role-playing, I tend to find myself 'just talking'.
A classic example of this happened just last night!
I arrived in Fairhaven and said my usually hellos and waved at people I knew. As I approached the stable I heard the grumblings of a good friend (Sister?) of mine. We started chatting in character and it was a natural conversation that just flowed. About 15-20 mins later Frydeswinde went off to carry on her work and I went on my way. This sort of thing happens ALL the time in Neun's life. What I tend to find as well, is others get caught up in the moment and groups of people tend to form and many times I have found myself lost in the moment and forgotten that I was going to go hunting, very much like life! I am not a 'purest' when it comes to RP so I don't get upset when I met non-role-payers, I do however tend to give them replies based on 'Neun thinking' rather than my real life opinions.
The players have really started to build 'backgrounds' to their characters most of which come from their real in game experiences. Some just appear out of the blue and after a day or three, become historical fact.
Out of interest can you find out in game the answers to the following questions:
1. Who is Neun's mother?
2. Who is Spiteh's Wife?
3. Where did Raynez and Starflow get married?
4. Who is Jyudus' girlfriend? (Don't ask him because he will deny it!)
5. Who first called Neun 'TAKAN' and what does it stand for?
The above a very simple questions. The answers are in the memories of many of the players. All of them came from the 'natural' style of role-play that is the beating heart of the homins of Atys.

*blush* - Makes note to punish Killi later. Remember 'In Bounty Breaches, No one can hear you scream!'

Thanks Killi - for this lovely example of the Crazy world of Role-Play in Ryzom.
Killi and Neun have been arguing like children for months
We even argue and sulk (most killi sulking) in tells!
Also Killi - is not a nice person, she is EVIL! (The fluffiest, cutest, kindest, cuddliest EVIL you could make out of cotton wool
)
(btw Killi, I need a proof reader and a spell checker, how much do you charge?)

How many times to I have to tell you it's silk, not cotton wool ?? As for proof reading you, it'll cost you a couple thousand mats per post

Slowly reducing my debt.
Anyway, role-play in Ryzom is relaxed and almost everywhere. Non role-players and role-players co-exist quite happily.
