Tired of Trolls and Thread-stealers?

In the recent weeks Ive been tired of having to scroll through a lot of flaming going on in almost every new thread here, and I was annoyed about not being able to click on the flamers name and add him/her to an ignore list (you can only add them to friendslist that way).

Then I started sneaking around in my "User Control Panel" and weeee \o/ I found the ignore list maker!

Enter any of our forums, go to the very bottom of the page and click the dropdown bar below the text "Forum Jump", and click on "User Control Panel" at the top of the dropdown-bar.

In the menu to the left is a "Miscellaneous" area, and you will find the Buddy / Ignore List there.. GL guys... Im sad to say this, but some has allready entered my list :(

Although ignore lists are useful, they can also be the spawn of satan too. As Forrest Gump allegedly said:

"Forum posts are a liiiiike a box of cho-co-lates. You never knoooow when a troll will make a good one..."

My advice is create your own ignore function, unless you *really* feel a poster will never make a good contribution. If you see a poster you think is a troll, scan the post quickly and see what you think. At the end of the day, if they were on your ignore list you'd have seen none of the post anyway. Likewise, if that same person comes up with a quality post or idea out of the blue, you'll miss it without any kind of notification, and that could be your loss.

Ignore List = Easy and Clumsy way of missing quality posts, and generalising that someone will never make a post worth reading, which is something you cannot predict (sorry I'm a programmer)

EDIT: Flaming I don't like, and it's a shame it happens (I have been guilty in the past, I'll admit). Offtopic wandering is a completely different thing - it happens, it's a fact of forum life, and it aint gonna change (yes I'm guilty of this too, even more so :) ) People should not find themselves on ignore lists for posting offtopic replies

Agree with Daz really, i to am abit peeved at wading through mindless postings and it is tempting to add one or two names to an ignore list but in the hope that somone may come up with a valid point i wont be doing so, but there again i am probably too much of a fuzzy headed optimist.

The Ignore list is a good thing... but as Daz said, you'll prolly miss something.

IMO the trolls have well known avatars. It's not too difficult to filter them out by eye and jump the post. Thats the way I read the forum.

Sadly Razz was right, I had to jump a lot in the last few weeks... :(
