1. How does this game compare to WoW in terms of content and fun.
Depends on what elements of WoW made you like that game really. WoW has a excellent end-game, with fun raid bosses and the instances, also outdoor contested bosses. Ryzom only has a few bosses that drop anything other than materials, and there are no instancing like in WoW.
Tradeskilling is alot more involved in this game. In WoW you can essentially max out your tradeskill in 15 minutes if you had all the items required. There also are no failed or degraded crafts, and theres no combining items to make more powerful versions or specialised versions of items. Ryzom has a quite good crafting system where you can combine different types of mats to get better stats on items, and there are TONS of different items to craft.
The leveling system in ryzom is completely different from WoW (and most other mmorpgs i believe) in that you can level every single skill to the top level if you so want, you gain xp in the skill you use during a fight, not a general amount of xp raising your general xp bar. This means you arent restricted to the skills (class) you pick at the start of the game, and can start leveling any other skill whenever you want.
Two of ryzoms best features is 1. the friendly community and 2. the skill-creation system. To make a skill, for example a spell, you need to "create" it, by adding what bricks you want into the spell plan and casting costs. So you can make a spell thats essentially free but takes a long time to cast, or a spell that drains your health instead of your mana (sap)
2. Are there any RPers here or Roleplying Servers for people like me to congregate?
Thanks in advance!
There are just 3 servers, french, german and english speaking (basically, the rest of the world)
There are lots of people that RP, with events like weddings and events that actually change the direction the game is heading in depending on the outcome.
Myself, i play Ryzom AND WoW . WoW easily satisfies my raiding "needs", while Ryzom is great for just relaxing and having fun. MMORPGs are nearly only about timesinks and grinding, and WoW has ALOT of that, which is why i only play it when my guild there are raiding. In Ryzom i get to tradeskill in a good tradeskill interface (which WoW lacks), and i get to level whichever combat skill i feel like at that moment. (where i would have to make a completely new character in WoW to do the same)
Another unique feature with this game is the foraging part of the skills, where you dig for the materials required to craft, not having to rely on farming tradeskill items from mobs and through boring quests.
