Can anyone explain how Shields work?
Do they protect the user by default?
Do they only protect others with the Shield Melee Skill?
Can this be used on yourself?
I just started crafting shields, they say they offer protection, but I am not sure they work...
Maybe we need an option of not just dodge, parry, but BLOCK. Just an Idea, when ever this takes place your shield Durability takes a hit instead of you?
Anyway any info on shields would be great!
Proof

I know that the Shield skill is to protect others and that having a shield allows you to stop more damage from hitting them. I am guessing that a shield raises your protection but craft one and look at the stats to find out how much.

Thanks for the reply.
They do offer protection according to the stats... just like armor, exactly, but I am not sure they work, or if there is anyway to test it heh.

I used a shield and lance from the start -mainly because *everybody* told me that the pike RULEZ- and the Stok Shield gives protection in the range of a medium vest. Unfortunately it also has +30 penalty so maybe *everybody* is right.....
The appearance of the Blok Buckler sucks big time but the Stok Shield looks cool - chitin-layer like in light grey (no matter what mats you use). But it doesnt offer any combat options - something like *bash* is definitely missing.

I appreciate the input from everyone. I am a little more happy to see that they work like armor =).
