Outpost Guards

I had an idea about outpost guards that I figured I'd go ahead and post. Granted, I don't know the details about how they work but from the video and what we have heard, it sounds like you just buy predefined guards and pay a periodic fee for upkeep.
I'd rather see a system where you buy guards that have predefined skills (melee, range, healer, etc.) but that don't have any equipment. It would then be up to the crafters and harvesters of the guild to outfit the guards with armor, weapons, and jewelry.
I think this would cause the harvesters and crafters to have a key role in the defense of the outpost (other than just grinding out dapper). The guilds that have spent the time developing things other than combat skills would have an advantage (and I think that's a good thing).
All of the sudden, finding the best patterns for good equipment and seeking out the best resource spots would become a very strategic part of holding your outpost.
Further, rather than the upkeep of guards being dapper, their equipmentcould wear out over time (similar to ours wearing with use) and you'd have to replace it, thus forming the upkeep cost. The rate of their equipment degradation could be tweaked to adjust the upkeep cost.

I like this idea.
Might be cool too if we get to 'train' these soldiers and 'lvl' them up. Beat them up around a bit, heal them, feed them nice juicy yubos steaks, etc.
Doubt either will happened though, but we shall see.

I hope we'll be able to heal the guards too. Or will they just respawn like the other NPC guards.
In fact it would be nice if we could heal any NPC that we have positive fame with. When they wade in and help out during a fight, or you leg it to them because you're about to die, would be nice if you could show your gratitude by healing them.

I sooo agree here
I wish crafters and diggers are more than just outpost funders... (yeah, I craft and dig, so what?
)

It would be nice to have something to do with ground armour rather than to sell it. Also I think it would increase the market for manufactured goods.

Nice idea. I think you should be able to buy guards with 'standard' equipment however. Not all guilds have all very high level crafters around and those crafters do want to do other things then grinding new armour for the Outpost guards.
But craftable equipment upgrades, yay! By all means.
I don't know how strong the guards are when you hire them.. But a blue colour guard in a purple area seems kinda.. lame and underpowered.
-- Small edit: I just can picture Jyudas putting medium armour on all the guards (specially the female ones
)

LOL yup, I must admit I agree with that one.
Jyudas: Yeah I've been crafting quite a bit of armor for the outpost lately, I've been storying them in my appartment instead of selling them. Now it's a mess and I can't have any one over, so we better get NPCs soon !
Kostika: Ok, I've been thinking we need about X defenders, maybe half normal guards and half advanced guards.
Jyudas: Any chance you can make them all female ? I mean medium armor just looks better on them...
Kostika: I'll look into it, but hey, no promises, we're defending an outpost don't forget.
Jyudas: Oh and my Leader... could we only hire Trykerettes... they really are the cutest in Fyros medium
.
Rashan snorts, Jokqua and Mioette blush and Kostika looks very unimpressed... (sounds like Jyudas is in for a spanking again).

Very good idea, I have been hoping for something like this too. Having the guards wear exactly the items you crafted for them would so rock.
But, I suspect more simple implementation will be more likely e.g. lvl 150 guard must be provided just some q150 armor and weapon. Guard will have default set of items for his type regardless of items crafted. Maybe grade of item would give some boost (e.g. supreme gives better item than basic).

Yeah, with npc items that are sold at merchants
If we have to provide guards with player crafted items would remove much of crafting grind where you sell 99% of your products to npc. Now you could sell your grind items (choice) at fair price to guilds that won't have crafting ability or give to your own guilds. That would give much more meaning to crafting and markets for crafted items.

How about ya able to loot said armor off the dead guards to
that way ya would be ready for counter attacks / able to arm ya own guards if ya cant craft.

Looting guards sounds neat idea too. Guild of ubercrafters need to think twice if they want to equip their guards with uber equipment. Hehe, some other guild might attack just for getting that equipment
