Soloing

As you all know, soloing mobs can be very dificult, especially at higher levels. A bit of lag, a second without paying enough attention, and blam! DP. Or even worst, a carnivore attacking you imediatelly after a fight when you are trying to regen auras and heals.

Of course, you can enchant a ranged weapon with fear and use it to snipe mobs from distance, but your the experience gained will not worth the ammo you spend, nor the charges of the enchantment. Also a big amount of time will be spend on regen - and that aplies at all kind of combat.

I'm not an AO fan, but I think the system used there is good. A healing kit (in our case self-heals) that can be used at a certain interval of time. IMO the time we need to recharge our self-heals is too long. We should be able to use it once / mob. You just can't level alone in Ryzom, and that's a fact, no matter what you want to say. Especially affter level 200 is impossible.

So this thread is both a demand(?)/plea(?)/beg(?) to the devs to decrease the rechage time at all auras and power stanzas, and also a question for players (vets or not). How do you solo, guys? (lev +175)

Note I do NOT like to fight in groups. Groups only need tankers and healers to level their elemental magic. When it comes to raise afflictions or other skills... you are alone. I healed my guildmates til I reached 214 and now I have to group only with high levels. Again, I do not ask for a group, I just want to know how do you solo mobs.

And maybe this thread will be read of devs and maybe they will change things a bit, to help the lone wolves.

Sure you can level while going solo. Given, it's not as efficient as having a healer filling your hp/sap/stam up when you run out, but if it was, nobody would team. I think that there is wisdom behind the current setup.

Teaming

Because its harder to level solo, it encourages me to team with other players. I make friends, develop relationships, and it stregnthens the Ryzom community. Guilds and alliances are created, contact lists are filled, and watched. You find people you can relate to, as well as people you may want to avoid... that dont "mesh" with your personality or game style very well.

If it were simple to solo, and level at the same rate as when teamed, the renound community would go downhill. People wouldn't work together as much, it would turn into a game that is all about ME and less about US. Ive noticed in other games, where I have those stupid potions and such.... the comunity is much more... closed and uptight... people are just outright rude to each other... maybe this "soloing" availibility makes us harder and more selfish... but i could be wrong.

I enjoy hunting in teams, I also enjoy hunting solo when a team cant be found.... or forraging etc.

Soloing

Now, I'm probably not as experienced as you, or a whole lot of other gamers here.... but this is what I've noticed, that can probably be applied to you very well.

Since your heal is so high, 214... you've got a rather high magic resist. Work on plants with the other levels. Since they use mostly magic spells, you can resist them better than you would melee etc... and the opposite applies if you have a high melee.... to raise your ele work on mobs that will miss you because of your high melee resist.

You've probalby got a high dodge, so if you are working melee... put on your heavy armor, to diminish the mobs damage, and your dodge will be affected a little, but still probably higher than the mob lvl... so you'll still dodge very often.

Tryker for example has stingas who cast Root all the time, and in actuality... root doesn't hurt a caster at all... you dont need to move anyway. I dont know what the highest level of plant there is... like 160-180 or something... Plants in tryker are my favorite when trying to level my ele.... but since my magic is high, i can resist those stingas that are around my melee levels..

Just try to use your skills to the best advantage... use your high lvl resists and such in other areas... it kinda relates to overcrafting.... benefiting from the higher level attributes. Use that lvl 214 heal for more than healing. :)

Sure, I will have to sit and rest every now and again... but a lot of times I'll pull out a pick, and start diggin so I can take advantage of the time while my hp and sap regen, by using my focus... and getting some mats on the way. I know I am lacking my focus gear, but hey... every little bit counts, and it helps me to be more productive. :)

Now this does get tricky when you get in the upper levels because those mobs and plants can dish out some pretty hefty damage..... just experiment in different lands, with different mobs to figure out what works best.... but above 200, the plants and mobs are gonna be doing damage around or above 1000 hit points... so soloing, like you said, does get a bit scary.

Thats my opinion anyway.

play a single player game then?

i think you are sadly mistaken. The group setup you describe would apply if you are only interested in powerlevelling. Then there is no point leveling afflictions or anything but the most powerful attacks (and heals to back them up). The whole way afflictions work means they need to be used in a group. And believe it or not afflic users are a big asset to group whether blinding to help out tanks, or fearing add's, or a load of other ways. I dont think the system need to change so u can level solo - if they introduced these changes everyone would level a lot faster, there would b no need to talk to people (!), or interact in any way.

I beg to differ... I've never met "retards like leroy" in this game.

The worst I've come across is some selfish players only interested in powerleveling themselves. And they are the minority. The people I team with are more fun then the hunt itself.

I'd be strictly against changing self heal timers. I could possibly agree to adding something that made it easier for people to solo, because I know there are times when you just want to, but it would have to be something that wouldn't affect team play at all.

Guys... ur not devs. If you have some valuable oppinion about soloing, please post it. If you just want to "powerlevel your forum account" (TM) please use other thread.

If you think everyone is a retard... then you had better go visit a handicap hospital, and get a better definition of the word. You never know who is reading what you write. :) So judgemental.

And btw... I think that my posts are sincere and not... posting just to post.
(on this thread anyway)
