Some Thoughts on Fame

thought i'd share a few idea's on what i think could be done to improve the impact of fame. As things stand at the moment there are very few things ingame that fame affects:

* you need a certain amount of (global) fame to take rites
* you need a certain amount of fame to take missions from tribes (except from tribe welcomer)
* tribes will protect you if you are known to them (have completed a mission)
* tribes will attack you if your (global) fame is -80 or worse
* npc's in cities will refuse to trade/train you if your racial fame is particularly bad (think its -80 also)
* your spawn points will be either kami or karavan based on the highest fame
* prices for goods and services will rise or fall according to your racial fame

now considering how complex and involved the fame system is that seems to me to be a pretty limited list. Here are some of the things that i think would be good to have:

tribes
as your personal fame rises with tribes benefits could be added for visiting their villages
@ 35 fame you regenerate quicker within the village
@ 50 fame you gain access to a tribe hawker
@ 70 fame you get a title relating to the tribe
@ 80 fame a rite becomes available from the tribe chief (if their is a reason why rites are not available from tribes then just a mission to wipe out a tribe who are their main adversaries would be great)

Kami/Karavan
hmm ok a controversial one, but why can homins with -100 karavan fame still use their teleporters? or even -50 for that matter. I think that the present system is fine for those with fairly neutral fame but it would add more realism if the karavan/kami refused teleports to those with really bad fame.

Now i suppose an argument against this is their are some zones which only have one tp active, but they are few and far between. It would be nice to have some actual consequence to your kami/karavan support because at present there is none (and a whole other discussion about differences between races hehe)

To compensate for this negative impact on the game (from a purely selfish hey u cant take stuff away attitude) teleport points could become spawns at high levels of fame.

Agreed.

NPC guards and patrols should KoS at -100.

Because you pay them for the service , it would be nice to introduce a fame lvl variable into that though but id go for something like:-

-80 or more 2x cost
-50 to -79 1.5x cost
-49 to +49 @ cost
+50 to +79 0.5x cost
+80 or more Free

Id hope thats theres some effects we havent seen yet like getting Rites from tribes and outposts in tribe areas (they do have outpost NPCs) requiring tribe fame of a certain lvl too

NPC guards do kill on sight at -100

And its very difficult to do missions for them, to reduce the amount of negative fame.

Not always true. There is a tribe in Zorai that I have negative fame with that i cannot even get missions from the welcomer. Don't know if thre are more tribes out there like this, but I would guess so.

Pre-patch, welcomers that I checked never listed a fame requirement, but now I see that they do have one. It's like -65 or better, but it's still a requirement. That may explain why you can't get missions from that tribe.

I think he meant the wandering patrols should as well. Personally I think this is a terrible idea, because I wouldn't be able to live in Dyron due to my -100 fame for the Renegades (in fact, it would be about -146 if it didn't cap at -100 :D ). The NPC town guards don't protect you against tribe npcs (I've tried it ;) ), which would mean I (and many others) would be toast :p

Add to that the guards standing around the towers, and we wouldn't even be able to set foot in Dunes of Exile

I think that doing rite missions for kami/karavan (all(?) rites need 34 global) will be consequence for kami/karavan support. There are no kami/karavan rites atm (i think there was one karavan in yrk on ATS, but fame limit was disabled there - more ppl can test it), so maybe 34 global is not true in this case. We will see.
If kami/karavan rite mission need 34 global fame, "neutrality" will be hard. I don't belive that both sides will offer same rewards (like karavan armor crafting plan or their weapons or some kind of kamis magic spell - man, i still have hope for more content) and that will bring more diversity in game. Or not. There will be switching between kami/karavan guils for few hours just to make rites on both sides.

About race differences... Except for look and starting fame is almost none. Almost: I want tryker hair color and can't get it, cos i'm matis. What hair color have to do with race? For the rest, everybody can have same spell's, can start crafting armor or weapons from other race and so on. You can be Tryker and be supporter of Kami. Matis can get appartement in Pyr. Zorai can start guild in Yrk and even have guild hall there. It's all your choice (except hair color and style) and thats one of the best parts of the game.

Teleports and fame. I agree with you, change will be nice. The best option (IMO) is to change prices. Or maybe leave things like now. If someone is true kami/karavan fanatic (or extremist like someone [forgot who] said few months ago), he/she will not use teleports from oposite side anyway.

I think, if you have really high fame, articles about your home and love life should appear in cheap and tawdry magazines, you should get invited to talk about your vacuous existence on talk shows and that hordes of screaming fans should follow you wherever you go.

What?
