Sell me the game.

As I await my trial version to load up. I had a browse over these forums. It's clear Ryzom seems to have quite a community. I took part, briefly, in the Beta testing of the game. Now I want to test the release before I decide to hand over my hard earned cash.
There are a plethora of online games. I have an account at SWG. I had an account a EQII. I am trying DAoC. I am tempted by WoW.
I can only afford ONE online game. Two is a waste of my cash as I wouldn't find the time to play them both. As stated, I hold an account at SWG. This account has been cancelled and is due to expire in November 2005. I am looking for a new adventure and I something about Ryzom is drawing me in.
Forums like this are usually used to say about the bad things. The things that need improving, adding or removing. This is fine but it doesn't give a trialist like me a fair indication of what makes you all play the game. So I would like to ask you: Why do you play the game? What does this game give you? What do you like? What evidence is there to suggest that I can look forward to what is happening six months down the line, or even twelve months. New content?
I understand the best way to find out is to try the game for myself and as soon as I click "Submit New Thread" that is exactly what I will do. However 14 days can be too short a time to discover the true beauty of a game. The first few days are spread out into learning about the game, then experiancing it. 14 days is a good amount of time, don't get me wrong and it is far better than the skimpy 7-day trial that SOE gave SWG. But still there is no better indication than finding out from people who have and continue to hand their money over in exchange for an experiance.
So now is the time ladies and gents, to wax lyrical about the Saga of Ryzom and at the end of it maybe you'll have one fellow subscriber and surely a swelling player base, even if it just one (and it won't be just one), is good for all of us.
Thanks

The world is graphically stunning.
Everything that exists exists within a context of plausibility.
Creatures are not just waiting around to be killed, they migrate, they fight each other, they feed. It makes sense which makes the immersion fantastic.
The community and customer support are _peerless_.
It can be as much defined by what its not as what it is.
Its not run by one of the big 'screw you player' companies, smaller businesses deserve your support and can be more innovative.
Its not yet another elves/dwarves riff, it's genuinely different.
The community is, generally, mature and intelligent compared to many other games.
And you're just starting up as the REALLY good stuff is coming along...

I agree with everything Jyudas said. The graphics are amazing. There is such attention to detail - little frogs jumping around, birds fluttering by, scorpions scampering across the sand, etc. You can literally feel and hear a storm moving in with the swaying of the trees, the rippling of the water and the flashing of the lightening as the sky grows darker. Seasons change (snow falls from the sky during winter, flowers/tree bud and bloom in spring, summer and fall are distinct too), animals migrate, materials can become scarce through different seasons, as well as other things effected by seasonal change.
I also like that you are not limited to the skills you chose at the beginning of the game. I started as a fighter/mage. After reaching my personal goal in fight, I was able to add skills that I had not considered for my character previously (harvesting and crafting).
But, I truly believe the greatest selling point of Ryzom is the community. It's what keeps me coming in day after day above all other aspects of Ryzom. I've met some people in Ryzom that I consider to be true friends - in and out of this game. For an online gaming skeptic like me, I find that to be pretty amazing.

I have to agree with everything Carrie said in her post.
I have died many times cause I have to stop and look at the detail. It is amazing. To sit and watch the swaying of the trees makes you feel you are right there, brushing your hair from your face as the wind blows.
The different skills are great you are not stuck in one. You can do different ones and many branches.
You can go as slow as you want or as rapidly as you want. Leveling is an individual choice.
I have made many friends in Ryzom, some came with me from another game. I know several in real life and in game. I think the community is far better than some I have seen in other games. As Grimjim says, I am one of the more mature of the community, the intelligent I leave for the younguns.
I will be here with Ryzom until the very end.
Hope to see you in game and you enjoy it as much as I do.

Well... What to add?
I started this game after SWG, just as an 'in between' until WoW reached europe. The game had just been released, so it would be only a couple of months... But that is not the way it went.
I just cannot leave this game. It still is too stunning. Sure, I still have times when I think: 'OK what am I going to do today?' But most of those times i just do something and I have fun.
The things I find amazing are the graphics, the customer support, the (players) event, and ofcourse the community. I never experienced something like it in another game.
And like Grimjim is saying, I get the impression the game is just starting now. I sometimes even wish i could drop some (hard earned) levels so I can do them again with my guildies.

A few things I like to add:
- You allways get 100% support of the CSR staff when you are running your own events. Details are worked out, a date is set and a large amount of gm's and guid attend and help out if needed. Since you are getting this support, the sky is really the limit for player run events.
- This game has kept me since December 2003. I went trough all the beta's and subscribed on release and I still ain't tired of it.
- Due the classless sytem everyone can play together and makes helping out eachother very easy. Basicly you can play, team-up, ... with whoever you want, there are no restrictions.
- Nevrax hasn't taken the easy road in any of the things they implemented. They have made real gfx and didn't try to make a cartoonish atmosphere, they tried new things so nothing makes you think "Haven't I seen that before?", they tried to make this game as dynamic as possible, so there are very few restrictions, ...
- Since its the only game of this company, the whole firm is dedicated to it. All rescources are devoted to the game, so you can expect much more is coming.
If I can give you a small advice: leave the starter islands quickly. Its a little flaw the devs nor the beta testers really tought of. When you leave the starter islands you can't return, creating a very low populated area, wich happens to be the place where new customers spend a lot of thier time. If you have made a Fyros character, I'll be happy to show you around on the mainland!

I have not played other games that much so I can't say if these are unique to Ryzom.
- Foraging&Crafting system is quite sophisticated. In foraging the actual foraging action requires attention and in crafting there is endless ways of combining mats that give unique stat combinations. And there is lots of surprises hidden.
- Terrain is really nice and different regions have unique feel. Especially Fyros, Matis and PR. Weather effects rocks!
- Trekking & Exploring is real fun. There is a real challange if group is lvl 150 and below.

Nevrax is supposed to make couple of important announcements in E3 this week. That should clear things about new content that should be expected in that timeframe.
Not much of evidence, though
In couple of months there will be outposts that are now on test server.

Thank you for your replies. They are most informative and positive.
I am enjoying the game so far. The graphics are superb and I like the fact it's not Orc vs Human or the like.
At the moment I am a Tryker. The only thing about the game that alarms me seems to be the steep difficulty curb. At the moment I am on the starter island and have to kill 1 Weeny Goari. I've died four times trying. It is a challenge, but maybe that's not a bad thing.

Invest in good weapon. Maybe choice 2h sword. That helps a lot in start. Increase damage and accurate attack are good skills to get for melee.
Try killing yobos for couple of lvls and then izams. After those you can easily change to Goaris.
