what to do ?

this is not orders nor is it ment in a bad way just a few thoughts of myown and other players i have spoken to and hopfully a few suggestions will come at the end of the post or added by other players..

Q, why is the populations of SOR depleating.

A, apparently it is not depleating there are new player comming all the time, but here is a comment by another player:- lack of content, meaning once people have maxxed out melee, ele magic/heal magic a foraging skill and a crafting skill or maybe 2 of each they feel "whats they point in lvling another skill i can not take the game any further yet" , so whats left to do ?

Q, when is the next patch comming out.

A, unknown, supossed to b on the test server now again most gm's do not have infomation to give or are not allowed to tell until 24 hours before new content goes live. information is posted on the forums but not very detailed. just what some of the content is and not a more precise date on when it goes live, which would work if it was a fast proccess, but its not.

Q. if there are new players comming on all the time where are they ? i see about 5 new players every now and then and never see them again.

A, i will not comment about that as i do not have the answer only an assumption.

Q, most games have a very big advantage over SOR and that is they are normally 90% complete before they go live so what happened to SOR it was less that 50% complete when i joined.

A, buggs and clitches needed smoothing out, most devs do this before the game goes live, durring beta fase. not durring live time, but i sympathise that this is a complecated game with new and inovative content and game engine.
and you need more players to test the content than what you get in beta fase.

Q, lag is still occurring especially after a server reboot and in cirtain lands in particular seasons, just to mentions a couple of circumstances it happens.

A, isp lag, network lag, server lag. pc lag who knows.

Q, why was there a very pimited amount of advertising about SOR i actually saw quite a lot about it in various mmorpg site, but only one magazine advert and review and it was not in the most popular pc games magazine in england, irland, wales or scotland.

A, unknown i regularly read pc games magazines and purchase a couple every month, so i cant b told yes there were loads of adverts about the game,i also watxh the game show you find on sky and terestrial tele and have seen none yet, but i might have missed the episode with it in so i will not go any further with that one :) , so i must assume that most people who join now either stumble accross the game in a store or here about it by word of mouth.

Q, a rumour is that funding is becomming tight because of people putting there accounts on suspend or leaving.

A, unknown

Q, why can the gm's not give us an incite into whats going only, why is all infomation restricted to whast posted on the anouncments part of the forums.

A, to add litlle bit of surprise to the game, but how long can people wait for the surprises to be something real they can use or do.

there have been a lot of worrying coments/assumptions/facts or fictions said about SOR ingame and on forums in various places so i think some facts would b nice now, something to reasure me and other players who love the game as to what is going on and that it is not receading as badly as it seems and not going to fail before it gets to the finish line, or even when it gets to the second post.

i do love the game, its my only form of excapism from the every day monotony of life. so please dont let it go sour.
and it would seem that im the only one concerned by the lack of players or what seems to b a lack or players. i used ot play a game called legend of mir and that went out in a very bad way but i will submit to the fact that after a big shack up in the way things were done people came back after about 2 years of trouble. and is now still thriving.

i understand it is saturday night and a lot of people are out on the bender, but that affor mentioned LOM still had over 800 people playing it on a saturday night.

i think i have only seen about 150 people in all of fyros and that throughoutt he whole day NOT at one time. but i may be wrong about this.

my last post was locked even though it was not ment in any bad way please keep this open. it would be very interesting to see what people have to add to it. or in further answer to some of the questions possed here.
i have been told that lawrence might have some answers or b able to help understand the circumstance a bit better.

im sorry it seems as thoguh everthing i have to say is a moan or grumble about something, i do have some really interesting ideas to pass on to the devs but until the game is more complete and the current buugs are smoothed out completely i feel it is pointless passing any more on :(

There was a thread about this. Any rites or similar content can't keep most enthusiastic players occupied for long time even if there were tens of rites available.

Currently there is no "endgame" but if you check announcements you see how outpost implementation is going on. I guess that ppl have leveled faster and outpost implementation has been much slower than Nevrax planned originally.
nimbus3 wrote: Q, when is the next patch comming out.
Target is next week but will be delayed if there is still bugs.
nimbus3 wrote: Q. if there are new players comming on all the time where are they ? i see about 5 new players every now and then and never see them again.
They do not spend time at same places as you do. But there should be more new players coming in. However, SoR does not have great new player appeal. Whole starter island concept and tutorials need to be thought again. There has been lots of insightful posts about this issue.

Q?

Haven't seen anything lately that could be compared to previous lag problems. Internet is laggy at times, something that must be accepted.

I hope there is more advertising after spring clean, E3 and outposts.

nimbus3 wrote: Q, a rumour is that funding is becomming tight because of people putting there accounts on suspend or leaving.
LOL. I guess all spending is carefully planned given Nevrax's financial situation.
nimbus3 wrote: Q, why can the gm's not give us an incite into whats going only, why is all infomation restricted to whast posted on the anouncments part of the forums.
Actually, I like it better that way. GM's have more important things to do than explain upcoming changes to individual players. Posted information is available equally for everyone and it is some kind of promise from Nevrax. GM might not have valid information about upcoming changes as priorties tend to change.

I am quite happy about glimpses of production. Only problem that there is no hint when those features can be expected on live server.

E3 will be important step for Ryzom. If all goes well during next few months:

1. E3 announcements are exciting
- Free publicity -> press coverage -> new players
- Something new for veteran players to do and expect

2. Spring cllean of code & processes goes well
- New content start coming out faster and without introducing loads of new bugs

3. Outposts & rites
- major short term content upgrades are succesful

4. Increased advertising based on 1 & 3
- new players

4 .Financial situation gets fixed

lol its 04:35 now.. really must sleeeeeeeeeeep

the ppl leaving/where are new players thing i can answer :)

games' been live for nearly 9 months now, that means that a lot of players have reached a point of maturity, ie multiple lv250's. however good the game a proportion of them are going to be leaving, and on a regular basis.. I think the average churn rate for an established MMORPG is about 10-15% per month. Leaving aside the rabid fans (myself included in this category) there is little that can be done to stop this. Many gamers quite rightly want a constant fix of new and exciting stuff.. even with new content being introduced people are still gonna be leaving, its sad to see them go but ultimately a fact of life.

there are lots of new players, i've been noticing it a lot by hanging around the starter islands a few hours a week.. but they are hard to spot if ur off in GoC or where eva ;) Me and ali just spend a few hours with some fresh meat (lol sori for that description beolwyf and aphro) had a blast smashing brains to pulp in Grove of Umbra hehe..

i get the feeling that people worry about the population because their old friends are departing, the answer is probably to make new ones :D

Regarding endgames.

I've almost reached my levelling goals (Melee 200+ and HQ medium armour crafting) after that I intend to chill on the grind and just have fun. Explore, make cash, look into the outposts as they come in, create roleplay and help other people have fun.

That's enough 'endgame' for me :)

Not expressly true. Unless you play the game it is unlikely you're going to know how bugged it is. What may seem like perfection may just be our view.

No game , even non-MMO, is ever bug free.

oh yes i do agree to the fact that no mmorpg os ever gonna b completely bug free but most are at least 70%bug free and 90% complete (for the first lands or worlds). obviously they have expansion packs and majour patches too but what i said in the brackets should b finished by now. or at least i think it should going by how a lot of mmorpgs are run.

but simple things should have been sorted out a long time ago durring beta rather than live time whe most people are expenctin g to b able to complete most tasks given them. there are a lot of rite missions which are uncompleteable, but i will susstain from commenting too much about this as there is a previous thread about this with an answer to the problem there, i.e. most are being fixed with the next patch along with some new one s too. there is also some info on it in this thread somewhere.

there are about 3 months left of the first year of sor and it is possible to get to where you want in the game in around 3-4 months at the most so all i am saying really is the content should b at the absolute least a little bit quicker in going live so player can have a flow to the game to keep them interested.

i do admit that a lot of players i used to knocked around with have long gone, but it is not just them that i am talking about there are a lot of names i have seen around that i do not now anywhere in atys, it is a big world so i will decline somewhat and say it is possible that we will never b in the same place at the same time again.

it is now sunday as the date on this post should show. and in burning desert a total of 20 max people, in scorched corridor and FF a total of max 25 people, in savage dunes a total of 19 people and imerial dunes neglagable amount.so if you work on an average of 20 people for each region, an assumption that the other lands are the same or very simular, the figures are not very promising :( . but yet again i may be wrong durring the week there are normally quite a few more players online, but still around 50 per region which is still not very good for an mmorpg.

I started a new character in the starter island and sent a ticket about an issue I had with dying as soon as I left the town cause puny ragus do over 100 damage.

He said, I don't have any problem.

Is there a more mocking response than that?
