Was something done to the colors and graphics?

Tonight I logged in for the first time for an extended period of time. As I was going around I noticed that colors seemed to be brighter. I also noticed some sky effects I hadn't before. I don't remember the sky being mutliple colors at the same time (half gray, half blue). I also don't remember the objects such as the sun being so pronounced before. Are these new? Or is it just becuase it's the first time I really have played using the card I won?
I mean I understand the game will run faster but I didn't think the card would make that much of a difference colorwise.

Actually playing with a new and better video card should bring out more in the game, but it depends on how much of an improvement over your old card your new video card is. I went from an ATI Radeon 9200 to a MSI Radeon 9800Pro about 6 months ago, and I wanted to see the difference in the games I've bought and played in the last two years. It was like night and day. In SoR, I noticed more and effects colors in the sky, the sunsets and sunrises were more vibrant and colorful, overall things just looked much more smoother and brighter.

Ab better card with more hardwired effects (pixieshader) and newer drivers might show things you never have seen before. Man things you see are not only software but are programmed on the hardware. Probably your old card/drivers wherent able to display all fog and pixieshader effects. Same goes for brighter colors.
At least this ist Atys. Always changing, always new

Well I'm using the same drivers, Just went from a nvidia 6600 to a 6800. The biggest changes I have noticed is the sky changes according to the weather (I see the overcast slowly coming from the distance when it rains) and the planets and sun are much more defined now.

Ive noticed that the further away objects or animals are, the more blurred out (out of focus) they get. I dont seem to recall seeing that before.
Either they made some changes (which I find good, more life-like), or I was very sleepy when noticing

Yup, like that.
The game has fog somewhere, but instead of programming fog, it is on the card you won. It is like this:
SoR to the gfxC: Hey, I want some fog over there.
old gfxC: What is fog?
new gfxC: What color would you want it?
or
SoR to gfxC: There is a sun, it is over there. Also a spell is cast that gives light. Please cast the right shadows.
old gfxC: Shadow? Ah, you mean a static black blob? Coming up, but wont be easy!
new gfxC: very well, I will cast the right shadows. How far did you say the light of the spell reached? And what color was the light? I would like to have it reflex correctly from the other objects around. If you can tell me the properties of the surface of these objects of course. While at it, I will blur the sharp edges a bit for that natural feel. Anything else I can do for you?
Hardware is getting better and better and all the programmers have to do is create texture with the right properties and well worked out lightining to make the eyecandy come to live. The trick is to make it look good on all cards and settings, so that buying a new card is really worth it.
