Hi ,
I think the Nevrax Management should really look into creating (or partnering with some established guide makers ) there own Power Leveling books, service , and other form of guide and how-to's.

These seems to be a really nice revenue stream.

A game is supposed to be fun, powerleveling a character takes that fun away to fast.moulije wrote:Hi ,

Why shoot yourself in the foot and develop a easy walkthrough that reduces your income ?
Maybe they can sell level 250 characters aswell with all the gear neaded, no boring leveling anymore

Re: Sugestions : Power leveling Books
Powerleveling is sooooo boring, why would you need a guide for it?
powerleveling in ryzooom:
you search for a nice spawn that gives your team full 3k xp, if you really wanna powerlevel you kinda need a big group with team work for some chainpulling to keep the xp flowing in.
2 melee homins that pull the mobs, 3 nukers that kill mobs, 4 healers to keep the group suplied with hp/sap/stam
tada and you got yourself a night of eazy xp and total boredom...
end of my guide.

Re: Sugestions : Power leveling Books
Besides, what' s the point? Due to SoR having a smaller playerbase than those monster mmorpgs that publish such books, it would more than likely end up in a waste of more valuable time and resources that could be put to good use somewhere else.
So, sorry to say, I don' t think many will benefit from it.

Re: Sugestions : Power leveling Books
Would have thought advocating power leveling as an MMO dev was a bad idea, people out level content faster so want more to do and people who power level tend to get bored faster and hence leave sooner.
In certain games where theres a specific end game like daocs RvR then possibly, but wouldn't fit too well in Ryzom.
Also any guides tend to go out of date due to the constant nature of patching, never seen the point personally, when playing online games you have access to the web which can have a lot of the same sort of info for free.
UO has a system where you can buy a pre leveled character and a whole range of other money making schemes (pay for an event was one i remember). Which were viewd as a snub to the players who put in the time (and hence paid your subs fees) to make a character by playing. Dealing with financial issues in rl is enough for me thankyou, don't want my hobbie dominated by who's got the most cash

Whats the point : Income goes to Ryzom so they stay alive instead of going
to someone else and they go under due to lack of new income.
Reality is , someone will make those books eventually, I would prefer they came from Ryzom ( Nevrax ) and gained the income from it instead of someone else unrelated .
Personnaly , Power levelling people dont bother me at all , they tend to play the game to maximise there time , if they like the game they make for interesting high level protector or crafter , its the hardcore capitalist that grab the uber stuff and whont release it into the game economy unless you pay an astronomical sum that bother me the most.
"Maybe they can sell level 250 characters aswell with all the gear neaded"
Why not if someone whants to buy it ...
Full Fighter class 100$
Full Harvester class 100$
Full Magician class 100$
Full Crafter class 100$
"Powerleveling is sooooo boring"
Your entitled your opinion , I agree with it but I am not going to deny the income those bring in just because I disagree with those who use such books fully.

Personnaly , I dont whant to see my hobbie disapear , again ( this time due to lack of income instead of not meeting some management goal. )

One thing about ryzom is a lvl 250 harvester without the player skills learned from actual doing the exploring and digging. is worse off than a lvl 1 harvester.
Would you know where to dig?
Would you know what to dig and what use it is?
Would you know how to use the skills this lvl 250 harvest had?
If answers were sold to new players along with the lvl 250 character .... then why would that player want to play at all.
It would be like picking up a book in the library and reading the last page.
Re: Sugestions : Power leveling Books
LOL. I would not pay 100 bucks to read those things. Is easy to search forums and "powerlevel yourself" You cant mess up a character in Ryzom. The worst thing you can do is to have it leveling slower.moulije wrote:Full Fighter class 100$

Powerleveling in harvest? Find a highlevel and careplan for him.
Powelevel in fight / magic? See kildarin post.
In craft? LOL.
I don't want either to see an imbecil who payed 100 bucks to get an uberchar to sit at entrance of PR nucking everyone.
Getting an uberchar without effort is the shortest way to a climate where anyone diserespect anyone, and hardwork - and that's one of the basic concepts of the game - is more or less at the bottom of the list.
That which does not kill me makes me stronger.

These may be good ideas for games that have a big customer base. If you make a book for SoR you will already have a small possible amount of interested customers from the start.
You can't compare merchandise for SoR with games like WoW or EQ2. The last 2 have hundreds of thousands of subscriptors (WoW for sure). I doubt SoR even has 10000.
Lastly, why?
OK lets say you like to powerlevel over anything else and its not boring. Through experience from hunting all sorts of sizes, levels and fierceness of mobs i and many others could write the theoretically easiest way to get to 250 in one of each of the 4 different skill trees (fight, magic, craft, harvest) on half a page. What mobs to fight, what team, at what lvls to use etc for combat. For harvest/craft just a few sentences on what race to pick, where to harvest and what crafting tree is best. You don't need a book. Ask around in your guild or some other people that have reached a higher level than yourselves how they did it.
Re: Sugestions : Power leveling Books
I mean do people buy those guides as they seem pointless for MMO's, no point spending a fortune on printing and binding to end up with huge stock of unsold guides.
There was a games site that said that guides tended to be popular in the US but not in europe generally, they would need to test the market first and that in itself costs money.
As for selling pre made characters, if you loose x regular players for every player that buys a character you could loose out in the long run. Players do get upset by this sort of thing, it would have to be done very carefully.
The times ive seen guides and pay for char options in mmos it's been in a large mmo with big backing or in an old established game where the company is trying to squeeze more money out of its customers. Possibly not viable for a company in Nevrax position.
