Atys art contest

Concept:
A contest for the best piece(s) of Atys-inspired artwork.

Suggested parameters:

  • Entrants submit a screenshot of some in-game element that inspired their art (or perhaps a link to a passage of Atys lore), and the art itself.
  • The artwork would obviously need to be in some digital format, probably .jpg, but could be any medium. So, for example, if you did a drawing or painting, your submission would be the scan or digital photograph of that.
  • Judging would probably be best done by some panel, rather than popular vote, just to avoid it turning into a popularity contest rather than an art contest. Criteria for ranking an entry might include both the overall visual quality/impact, as well as how clearly "Atys" it is.
  • This could either be an official Nevrax contest (probably with the understanding that they would own reproduction rights if they wanted to use the art in their website or elsewhere), with prizes that might include a gift subscription for some period of time, or a nifty in-game item, or maybe they have one of those Nvidia cards returned undeliverable...
  • ...or it could be community-sponsored, and we'd put up our own fabulous prizes.

Thoughts? Alternative suggestions? Voices of rational dissent?

Full disclosure: This suggestion is in part inspired by the fact that I'm working on an artwork that I would like to enter in just such a contest. ;)

LOL that is by far the best reason for having a contest I have ever heard. :)

As for player run contests with prizes. I used to run contests in Earth and Beyond and gave time codes away. There is nothing like that in this game so that makes giving paid time an impossibility.

As for the cards, they contact you for your address so there are no returned ones. Sorry.

Oh good idea for a contest. I have zero artistic talent so I won't be entering.

Raynes, there are MANY types of artwork other than rigid realism. I am NOT capable of realism, but pointilism, or other impressionistic or near modern artwork...that I CAN do.

I wonder if a Barbie doll dressed in an Atysian inspired costume would count. I could take a pic of it with my video mail camera. Wait, no, not Barbie, Stacey doll, with her hair dyed purple, dressed like a Tryker! THAT'S the TICKET!
I KNOW I could make a set of Zorai light armor, *chews lip* *pulls a few sticks, twigs and a bunch of grass* Where was that hot glue gun again??

Or Matisian, *pulls out a bunch of silk flowers and an old silk Ficus tree* Ok, same issue...where DID I put that glue gun! I think the Iris will work for this, and maybe a .......

Sounds nifty lyrah, and sure that would count :) Why I bet if you made some limited-edition Atys-dressed dolls and posted them to ebay after letting the community here know about it, they'd fetch some good coin ;)

hey Keo ...

may I ask what tools you used to make your art piece?

Chuckle... sure, but that's liable to just confuse matters:

Tools used so far:
  • hammer
  • screwdriver
  • chisel
  • file
  • small chunk of rock
  • piece of chalk
  • small tool similar to a dentist's pick

I'd have used my Dremel also, but the collet had worn through and I haven't felt like making a Home Depot run.

Well since I do have to clean out my kids toy boxes to prepare for a move in two weeks...time to raid the DOLLS *evil genius gleem in eyes* And I also need to hit up mom's house, she has about 50 million silk plants, flowers and TEN dusty silk ficus trees. That should make roughly ten doll costumes, and I got some beads and string...that should do for the jewelery.

Hmm I guess I need to hit Kroger for the Kool aid dye job...(warning, Koolaid DOES work even on human hair, if your hair is light enough...but only for a weekend or so).

I found a Kelly doll that would work too, but that woulda been cheating...she was a "spring fairy" Kelly. So the alterations would have been MINOR at most.

I am not sure how saleable this would be, not sure a kid could play with it either. Well my kids at least, they tend to try to disect any toy they get. Barbies are neked in ten seconds (and they like to dress the Ken's in girlie things...OH the shame LOL)

I think there should be different divisions in this.
I think there should be...at least these:
3d media (this would cover, wood carvings, clay, femo, twistie ties and embroidery thread, alterred dolls with Atys themed clothing, crochets dollies with Atys costumes...Guys if I had the time...I would blow you minds on that one. But it takes about three WEEKS to crochet a dollie with thread, including costume.)
2D non electronicly created (pencil sketches to oil paintings.)
2d electronicly alterred graphics that originated as non electronic(taking a photo or drawing and adding, blurring, switching, or morphing or other digital goodies I don't know of. But if they can make Scooby doo and live actors in the same movie...what can they NOT do??!)

2d media created purely in the electronic world.

I would say subjects could be anything IN game, OR concept art, including buildings, mounts, mobs, playable races, tribes, your guilds icon...generally ANYTHING you can see on the offical web site...or during your play.
