There is no waiting period, it's instantaneous (or it was for me). If you see the payment in progress in your status, it means the transaction didn't finish properly, so cancel it and you'll see a button pop up on top of your profile page. Click on it and it'll take you to the payment page again where you'll get to reenter your credit card information. You'll receive an email once you've activated your account.

Check out the various "error 53" threads for more information, there are a lot of useful tips.
Thankyou, that worked for me, anyone else having this problem should try it aswell!
