I'd like to organize a goo harvesting event. I'm looking for your thoughts, suggestion, and comment on how this can be setup.

Other than just saying we harvested goo, whats the purpose in this event?
Just looking for some clerity, is this just a roleplay event to say we are cleaning up goo, (although it won't make any ingame difference), or is there something else?

It would be a roleplay event just like any other player run event. They really serve no purpose.

That's what I am asking you folks more or less. What sort of awards would you like? What is a fair way of judging the winners (remember goo is a mission item and can't be traded)?
The basic premise is a good one, it's just how to actually make it work that is the hard part.

I really have no idea.
I think most players won't participate because it wouldn't really affect the game world, and any rewards you can provide they can get just by grinding. And if the event is just about: go dig goo, go give raynes goo, get rewards from raynes, it would be a little boring.
Not sure how you can make something like this work without the help of the GMs (wink wink nudge nudge) to provide scripted event and/or unique rewards and/or relevancy.

I understand what you are saying. But aren't all player events things that don't effect the game world and rewards can be received by grinding? And you couldn't give me the goo, it's mission item.
Basically I was trying to come up with something like this:
http://ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t ... ge=1&pp=10
but with more interaction. Of course maybe as I suspect that the players on our server aren't interested in roleplay or lore related events.
BTW I do have one item that can't be attained through grinding. It's a very nice axe from the last big event.

I have a dumb question (well, it's not dumb to me, but may seem that way to more experienced players):
I'm a level 85 fighter playing mostly in Matis. Except for once while following a trek into Zorai, I've never even seen the goo, much less harvested any of it. Because the goo is so far from the main cities, is this something only high level players can participate in? How does one harvest goo? Just point at it with pick in hand or does one need a certain level of foraging? (see, I told you they were dumb questions.) My foraging is skill is sub-newbie (level 15).
If this is something lower level characters can do or can help in, I would participate even if the rewards were simply acknowledgement that we helped our beloved Atys. While I'm sure you and others would prefer more GM sponsored events, that doesn't mean we should reject attempts at player-created, role playing events.
My other question is whether your toon (the Karavan-hater that he is) will tolerate working alongside Karavan followers that want to help on something like this. My toon does not wish to be berated for his Karavan supporting ways while trying to help a Kami follower in common purpose. While the Karavan do not see the goo as being as big a problem as the Kami do, we both recognize that it is a problem. As far as I can tell (in my limited reading), we're just arguing about an issue of degree.
Of course, my toon is as ignorant as I am in the detailed lore of the planet and only knows what little he was taught as a young Tryker. He is willing to learn more as long it is presented in a positive way. Angry denunciations of Jena and/or the Karavan will lead him to 'port back to home to do something more enjoyable and leave you with your purple goo.
As far as rewards, if participants were to put in an entrance fee and the resulting pot distributed between the top collectors, that would seem fair. I think this should be more about the role-playing opportunity than the reward anyway.

I suppose you'd be able to see how much goo the participants were digging up, and at what quality, by watching those floating numbers as we dig. You could have some people "supervising" the work and offering praise and enouragement to the diggers.
If you were to also announce ahead of the event which missions require the digging up of goo, and have someone guide people to the npc's which give them, while also explaining in character what the goo is and why we have to dig it up, you'd be putting more of the lore in the game without forcing people to close out of the game and visit a web site to find it.
Since it's really difficult to offer a reward based on performance you can't judge (you can't see our mission logs or the goo we've collected) perhaps the contest could be centered more around rp. Have people make up a brief personal or historical reason for being there fighting the goo, and have a panel of judges rate our contributions.
As for rewards, if this contest is about cleaning up (harvesting) goo, why not have any material rewards be harvest-related. A full set of nice-looking focus armor and some jewelry to go with it, maybe, and a writeup here on the forums.
