Things that make you go 'If only I had know...'

Along time ago I started a similar tread... it appears to have disappeared.

I thought I would start it up again:

Useful things to know:

Chat commands:

/gu 'msg txt' or /guild 'msg txt'

- allows you to send a message in guild chat.

/tell 'player name' 'msg txt' or /t 'player name' 'msg txt'

-allows you to send a private message to a specific player, if they are not online or have used /afk you will receive a warning message.

/team 'msg txt'

-guess what team chat :P

/shout or /shout 'msg txt'

-allows you to make a wider range local chat message, text appears in a different colour to local chat.

there are others ... but I tend not to use them.

/c

- in a chat window locks cursor in that window /c to switch it off

/afk and /afk off

- allows you to rest undisturbed by tell, allows other players to know that you are not just ignoring them. Moving or carring out an action should disable an AFK state.

Useful keys

P - displays character stats
A - displays level progression
Y - displays team window, when in a team allows you to monitor members health/stam/sap
C - compass
H - you stats as a small window
S - you hands bar
X - merges the Sys info window into your chat box.

Ctrl+S - stop current action ... useful if you source is about to blow and you can remember you short cut for or stopping an accidently cast.
F6 - disengage allows you to stop combat mode, a must to enter water while in a fight.

F12 - target self

F10 or Ctrl + F10 - screen shot, these will be stored in you game directory numbered.

Stanza on you action (hands) bar can be activated by using numbers 1-0 top row and shift+1-0 for bottom row.

ctrl+1-0 selects that numbered hands bar collection.

Ins - run/walk
del - stand/sit
num pad 0 - look back at yourself ... nice for screenshots.

The 'Text Menu' can be switched into ICON mode by right click on it and selecting 'Icon Mode', this can be reverted back by right clicking on the icon bar and selecting 'Text mode'

In game macros can be written using the macro interface ... press shift+K this a complex to begin with, but actually very useful and straight forward. No you can't full automate actions. last action run will override previous actions, this is to prevent the creation of 'bots'. Chars must be player controlled.

Right click everything, windows etc, there are a lot of hidden menus.

Double clicking a green harvest source will automatically equip you pick and run the first extraction stanza on the current visible hands bar.

Double clicking a mob will automatically run you to the mob and start attacking using default attack. (Use ctrl+s if you do this by mistake). If travelling and you want to avoid 'accidental' attacking, equip a crafting tool or pick, this disables this feature.

Inventory windows can be split: packer1, packer2, packer3, mount4, equip into separate windows. Items can them be dragged and dropped between them.

Holding down shift while moving a stack will move the entire stack, this also works in the trade window.

Holding down ctrl while moving a stack will move a single item off the stack.

Work arounds:

Inventory bug, transfering items ..... if you are unable to transfer items between two inventories, create a sap crystal, then take it. this resets the inventory and allows normal transfers.

Trading between players ... it appears that the code for checking bulk and weight check the wrong character, transfer stacks one or two stacks at a time allows transfers to be carried out. If you have this issue on your last stack, split the stack and destroy the last item if you want a neat bag.

Items trapped in the temporary inventory, with large exchanges, you are sometimes left with a 'craft result/forage result' type window containing the items that you were unable to take. I tend to carry a spare pick/crafting tool to solve this. destroying an item in you inv allows you to take these items (bulk restrictions still apply) .... if you are near a vendor you can always sell something to make more space.

The list goes on ......

I will add more later :D

CTRL-S and F6 - very useful i did not know them. Died several times not having a F6 :)

F12 - ??? Is there any spell/skill i can put on myself (like in other games)

Is it possible to hide away the Text/Icon-menue complete ?

Is it possible to select more then one stack to move ? I tried SHIFT and some other combinations without success. Would be nice to move a complete armorset at once.

Never thought about usimg INSERT for screenshots. My hands are too small. I use screen4, which is without any windows. I rather use it to check if [insert your favorite aggro here] is still behind me :p

I have redefined Ctrl-S to the 'Q' key :D I used it a lot. Press 'K' for a list of in-game keys and you can change them here to.

Sheilding stanza - fighter tree, requires you to target yourself or another player to use.

No, but it is possible to change the foreground 'opacity' to almost invisble.... on the right-click menu.

Nope, one stack/items at a time.

I ment Numpad 0 for the reverse camera. (oops) there are a number of camera options, with escape me.... rotate left and right for example. These are on the Num pad keys.

I have learn't most of the stuff by trial and error, I will one day read the online help :P

PGUP & PGDOWN: look up & down
CTRL+PGUP & CTRL+PGDOWN: change camera height
Mouse wheel: change cam distance

Something I only learned 2 days ago :)

Most people know that to do an emote its /bow /dance etc

However when in the list you get an emote such as "you and me"

To perform this:

/"you and me" =)

still utterly useless when applied to yourself ;)
you take xx% off the damage that the mob was giving you, and apply it ... to yourself oO
only useful when protecting your healers, etc.

Any way of binding actions to mouse buttons 4/5?

oh and screenshots, ive set up desktop 4 (f4) so that everythings closed and the menu is set to icons, gui transparent max and bottom right. get a nice clear view but still have camera control.

Not got a big enough PC but would also look nice for fraps videos. Forget how pretty this game can be :)

Useful for healers:

Use macros to target team members and cast a spell. Basically set up an action macro with the following commands:

Add command: Target team member #
Add command: Run shortcut #

This will allow you to heal without having to actually click on the team member or on the list - I bound mine to numpad 1 - 8 for the various slots.

Use Shift+numpad for stam, ctrl+numpad for sap etc.

This was mentioned on the US forums and is very very useful.

You can also use this for other things. I have numpad 9 set up as my "run away screaming" shortcut. It has a /shout command to tell the team to scatter, and activates invulnerability and speed up stanzas. Good for "last man standing" scatter actions when your team gets bumped by a patrol or similar.

Lazarus, excellent post. Just thought I'd point out one thing, just in case...

Invulnerability cancels speed-up, and speed-up can't be used while under the effects of invulnerability. Works fine for Melee Protection Aura, but Invul itself, nope. Hopefully this will save a couple of people finding out the hard way :)
