In an attempt to reduce the crippling lag i suffer whilst playing this game I bought an extra 512mb ram yesterday. In the process of fiddling around with this to try and get it work my PC has blown up.
When I turn it on it just makes a bleep bleep bleep noise.
Needless to say so was I soon after!
So much to my annoyance I can now no longer my PC or even worse play Ryzom!
Any ideas before I take it to PC world for an expensive fix!?!?

beep beep ... usually indicates you have the wrong type of memory. have you tried putting it back to how it was?

And if its the right kind of memory usually its not inserted in the socket correctly or all the way. Easy fix for such situation for me has always been to take all memory modules out and put them back in and adding a bit extra pressure to make sure they are in all the way.
I wonder what a beeping post code has to do with blowing up the PC? This is a typical layer 8 problem.

Good old Bios Beep Codes
Depending on your BIOS, beeps can have different meanings.
My guess :
2 or 3 short beeps
Your computer has memory problems. If there is no video (black screen)
it would seem like you have a parity error in your first 64k of memory.
Pull out your modules and reseat them. If this does not work try switching the first and second banks memory chips.
First banks are the memory banks that your CPU finds it's first 64K of base memory in.

I have fiddled with the ram, no luck.
3 short beeps!
the banks of memory on the ram are fixed so no entirely sure what you mean by here!
Anything else I can do?

Is the new memory of the same type/speed/parity as the existing ram?
If you take out the ram you put it does the computer work as it did before you put in the new ram?
Does you machine require you to put you ram in in 'pairs'?
Did you check that you machine support the extra ram you bought?
Do you have a friend who can have a look at you machine?
Do you have a manual with you mother board?
Does you machine work if the only memory in it is the new memory that you bought?
Did you follow the instructions that came with you new ram? (Static electricity kills memory)

Certainly sounds like faulty or incorrect memory type - as Neun suggested, go back to your original setup and see if that still works OK. Buying new memory is not for the faint hearted, many different speed and config options to think about. Also, your DIMM memory slots may have restrictions on clock speed, for example my motherboard supports DDR400 (PC3200) memory, but only in the first 2 slots (I think newer boards may not have this restriction, but I'm not too sure)...
BTW Sky, what's a layer 8 problem?
(PS Link it's 640K base
Arrgh, old MS-DOS geek!!)

64k Should be more than enough - if not it's badly written
DOS Powned !

Puts on Pirate hat a impersinates Sky.....
Open System Interconnection (OSI) networking stack
The 8th layer of this model is .....
Humans
I think what Sky is subtly saying is....
What has Ryzom got to do with this problem....
Our friend decided to upgrade their computer, the motivator was to speed up a game. This game happened to be Ryzom, it could have been any game.
They took action themselves to buy additional memory, with limited knowledge of what was required in performing this relatively complex and potentially expensive task.
The post tilte implies that Ryzom an electronic computer game, has in someway lead to the computer being damaged in some way.
The damaging factor is infact the 8th Layer of the OSI model.
I am always willing to help and in explaining the '8th layer problem', I mean no offence to the original poster, dispite the miss-leading title on the thread.
